I'd say RB2 is looking less and less likely unless MJC flips. Obviously would welcome it, just don't see it happening at the moment. OT2 slightly more probable but if I was calling simply yes/no, I'd say no it's not happening.

I'm cool with just sticking with Deroche & calling it a day at TE.

Between Gilbert, Mueller & Briggs, we have our playmaking receiving TE's set for at least the next 2 seasons.

We can always find a Blocking TE out the Portal, those are always available.
 
Idk how you don’t just attack the portal… Dawsons offense has proven the TE is mostly an after thought. We had a 2nd round athletic skilled TE and he barely used him except for a trick play that popped twice

Ya I'm kinda here too…. I know some people want to use the position more, but to act like we haven't recruited the position well the last two years (even with the departure of Schott) is just false. Both years were basically home runs, although we lost 1 of the 4.

I don't mind Cartwright though. I wouldn't break the bank for him, but he looks pretty good. Just don't reach imo

This is just not true man. Multiple manufactured touches for Elijah in every game and at least one wow play in **** near every game. Did we force feed him balls like Brock Bowers? No, but we also had the most prolific offense in the country and like the last 5 years. Everyone ate, including Elijah.

I’m not diminishing what Elijah did just saying Dawson doesn’t focuses on the TE… at the end of the day there’s only so many offensive snaps out of the FAMU and ball state games and we still want to be a power run offense that runs some spread offense… sucks to see the TE usage drop but it’s amazing seeing guys like X and Mali eat with some other WRs getting burn

To be honest arroyo should’ve gotten used more he was our best offensive weapon athletically even though X was the man with route running… he should have been on the Mackey award watch.

This guys right. I was surprised when I saw it bc it seemed like he was so involved, but his numbers show the opposite. Target share was only 9.6%, target rate 13.5%, 1.70 yards per route run, and 1.21 yards per team pass attempt.

Cam threw 36 attempts per game
Beck had 29. Feel like his big plays kinda overshadowed how much Cam threw the sh*t outta the ball. He was not very involved bc there were so many (old and good) mouths to feed + 11p makes it tough to compete with 3 WR.

Still insane how efficient Cam was throwing that much

Arroyo was so good I think he’s in more of the outlier than what should be expected. It was almost like he’s too freaking good to not be a major component of the offense. And I’m sure if a player in the same ilk as Arroyo comes along well use him. But it feels like that type of TE isn’t a top priority.

Williams and Lofton got touches also. If Lofton, Mueller, or Briggs develop into premier receiving talents at their position then Dawson will create opportunities for them. Cam had just as much to do with Arroyo not getting more targets as Dawson.

If Arroyo had been here last season Beck would have targeted him more than Cam did. **** he kept pushing it to Bauman even though his soft butterfinger *** couldn't make a catch if a guy was within 3 yards of him.

I don't know if Mensah likes the TE check down and other option routes, but I expect similar attention and improved production from that position. One of the TEs should emerge. Only caveat is if we are so dynamic in the Wr room that the TE is an afterthought cause we are undefendable on the perimeter.

At this moment we aren't pushing for any elite receiving TEs because none really remain on the board. We were hard after Dollar and it just didn't break our way, maybe UGA ***** the bed and we circle back. Either way we have chased some elite receiving TE options in the previous two classes and landed some of them.

I am interested to see how the cycle and season progress.

Bauman was always the last read.
 
No point to over spend here. The best part about this class along with the high average is that we have an elite commit at 4 of the 5 premium positions. The portal will give us plenty of options, where we stand right now, we have to be excstatic about where we are with talent acquisition.
 
Reposting to dispel an often repeated myth. 2024 was an all-time productivity output by TE U in our history since Howard got here.

2024: Elijah Arroyo: 35 receptions, 590 receiving yards with 7 TDs

2023 was a joke TE production wise

2022: Mallory: 42 receptions, 538 receiving yards and 3 TDs. Mallory led the team in receptions.

Other TEs: 18 receptions, 216 receiving yards with 2 TDs

2020: Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory: 60 receptions, 907 receiving yards with 11 TDS. Similar to 2024. 2020 was better than their previous years. I’d put 2020 as the second best year TE wise for Miami.

2017: Chris Herndon: 40 receptions for 477 receiving yards with 4 TDs. Michael Irvin II caught 9 passes for 78 yards.

2016: Njoku 43 receptions for 698 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns. Chris Herndon with 28 receptions for 334 receiving yards and 2 TDs.

73 receptions and 1,064 receiving yards and 10 TDs in total when including Standish Dobard. Best year for TEs in the last 25 years.

2014: Standish Dobard 7 receptions 147 receiving yards. Clive Walford, who led the team in receptions, had 44 receptions & 676 receiving yards with 7 TDs. Duke was second on the team in receptions and Dorsett had the most receiving yards.

2009: Jimmy Graham; 17 receptions 213 receiving yards and 5 TDs. Other TEs had 27 receptions w/ 314 receiving yards and 5 TDs.


2006: Greg Olsen 40 receptions, 489 receiving yards, 1 TD.

2003: 60 receptions, 605 receiving yards and 1 TD for Kellen Winslow — 1 of 2 all-American seasons by a Umiami TE. The year before he had 57 receptions for 726 receiving yards and 8 TDS.

2001: Jeremy Shockey had 40 receptions, 519 receiving yards and 7 TDs.

1991: 44 CCs for TEs

1985: Chase’s Dad’s All-American SZN 48 catches for 669 yards and 1 TD; which was actually worse than his previous season of 66 catches for 852 yards and 5 TDs. 72 combined TE receptions in ‘84; 53 combined TE receptions in ‘85

Don’t know the breakdown by target shares but Bernie Kosar, Steve Walsh, Vinnie T etc all had year(s) w/ 350+ passing attempts.

In 1991, Miami’s quarterbacks went 223/396 with 44 combined receptions, of 223, by the TEs. 1990, 43. Only 30 in 1989.

Our TEs had a larger % share of the targets & receptions in 2022 compared to 2024; additionally had one more reception in ‘22 than ‘24; Mallory led the team in receptions in 2022. Were our TEs better utilized in Gattis’ ‘22 offense than Dawson’s ‘24 offense? Obviously the answer is the latter.

Yep. Hard for a TE to compete in an 11p air raid regardless. But then you have a 6th year Restrepo, 3rd year Horton, 4th year George, and 5th year Brown Jr (in order of most targets to least). 4 very experienced “vets.” And then you throw the ball 456 times. Even Restrepo only had a 21% target share. Which for the main guy on a good offense in their 6th year is very low. Also didn’t help arroyo that they all pretty much lived in the same area of the field. Average depths of target all within 9.5-12.4. Essentially 5 receivers and Arroyo was competing with Restrepo in the slot.

Plethora of weapons all took away from each other.
