2027 Anthony Cartwright III 4* TE from Franklin, MI (Detroit Country Day) Commits to the Ducks

It’s interesting, Michigan really wants him yet they seem resigned to him leaving. Dad played basketball at Michigan state but Michigan fans think he goes to LSU or Oregon.



He’s already taken 3 OVs: Michigan State, Stanford and LSU.
 
I think it was Gaby that mentioned he suffered an injury a while back and that was the reason Miami cooled on him.

Guess we back on him?

I’m not so sure we’re back recruiting him just yet. Gaby said he expected the visitors’ list to take a hit before the weekend; could be a reference to Cartwright

The tight end board has dwindled, and Cartwright is the highest ranked uncommitted target left on the board.

I would say the Ducks are his leader, but it feels like things have cooled as they offered a slew of new tight ends this spring and appear to be taking their time and doing further evaluations on targets.

Anthony Cartwright’s official visit to Stanford on May 23 came as a bit of a surprise.

While Cartwright has been a top target, there isn’t a high level of confidence on the LSU side that a path to landing him and Hudson would be there. At this point, I would lean towards him landing elsewhere.

The article makes it seem like none of the school's feel confident and he's not the primary TE option for any of them at this point. Could be the injury scared them all and lowered his position on their eval board.

If the Canes have injury intel that the other schools don't and put the full court press on, given that no one has seemingly prioritized him, they might be able to get him to commit.

Thread 'A tidbit on TE recruiting'

For a while, it looked like things might be cooling with four-star TE Anthony Cartwright (Detroit, Michigan). He showed up injured on his unofficial visit, and with TE commit DeMarcus Deroche (Cardinal Gibbons) already rehabbing, it gave some people pause.

Per sources, the staff has done some digging on Cartwright’s ankle and they have less concerns headed into his OV. He should be full go for his senior season of high school.

Don’t be surprised if Miami turns up the heat. They really like the player.

Miami likes to recruit up here, and the race is open at this point. It’s probably a lot more open than people realize. Oregon and LSU are main comp for Miami.

“Anthony Cartwright is one of those kids who flies under the radar,” Smith said. “He has really good size. He’s around 6-foot-4, 230 pounds. He’s close to 6-foot-5. He moves really well at that size. He’s a really good pass catcher. He’s a willing blocker but not necessarily developed there. He’s a kid who has a high upside. He’s appropriately rated as a four-star.

@DMoney did mention that we would be taking a flyer on high upside, lower NIL kids. He would likely qualify under this criteria and would therefore explain a TE committing when D$ didn't have TE as a remaining position commit list.

Oregon has a TE who has been blowing up visiting next weekend. Kid is from Tennessee and has visited Ole Miss, Tennessee and will visit Alabama and Indiana before July. So idk what their confidence level is with him. Other than that, i see no other TEs OVing there besides Cartwright.

Schools are prioritizing him. Michigan state, Stanford, and Michigan are bare minimum. Cartwright has visited Michigan more than any other program.

Michigan made him a top priority prospect immediately after arriving in Ann Arbor. He was one of just two recruits to visit the Wolverines in January. Both Kyle and Freddie Whittinghamtook on significant roles in his recruitment.
“Ever since my first time I met them in office, they kept me up there for a couple hours,” Cartwright said. “It was good. It was good getting to sit down and see what they were talking about, and they’ve been down here a couple of times. Coach Freddie, not only do we talk about football, but we talk about family stuff too. I’ve talked with them a lot, and I also know their GA staff, their player personnel people as well. I talk to them a lot, pretty much every day.”
He met with Kyle Whittingham during his first visit, and the Wolverine head coach visited his school in January as well. They really clicked this year. The head coach calls him “AC3.”
“Coach Kyle, we’ve got a pretty great relationship,” Cartwright said. “Every time he calls, it’s great.”

Michigan fans want him, think he is really good, and so does their staff. His decision date is June 28th.

Ahmad Hudson is a double-sport legacy who is the top TE in the country. His best friend has a brother who is a current DB at LSU; and will be going to LSU himself as a DB.

LSU’s staff knew they were getting Hudson since Lane got the job. Only school that wasted major time on him was Nebraska because of Trae Taylor. Yet, they still brought Cartwright on a visit. Not sure if they are recruiting him heavily but I don’t buy the notion that Hudson’s commitment changed their dynamics since they knew Hudson was going to commit no matter what.

Detroit Country Day is also an ELITE school. It’s not your typical country day. Lots of other very good schools to go to as an athlete but his family sent him there. Says a ton about the family that they value education.

Detroit Country Day is one of the best academic and athletic high schools in Michigan.
A few notable alumni are; Chris Webber and Shane Battier

Expect him to stick to his planned announcement on the 28th
