Anez Cooper's Transformation

Guys like Cooper, Bain, Mauigoa, Kelly, Joseph, Fletcher, etc make me really excited about the kind of kid Mario recruits.

People have said he’s a “star *****” but I think he’s put a huge focus on kids with the right mentality and approach as well as physical potential.

He’s not the greatest game day coach but if he builds a locker room full of guys like these he’ll have us back in the national conversation every year 100%.
He has said it himself he is a star *****.. Obviously he wants kids with right mindset but he wants the jumbo athletes at top of food chain, he has made that clear..

Seeing how Anez has improved, how Bain has built himself up, how Samson has gotten noticeably stronger, it seems like what we're doing both lifting and nutrition wise seems to work and work really well.

Obviously its always a combination of athlete and training but to see a 400 lbs guy being able to shed that much weight and look as big as he does because of the muscle, you have a very very good plan and structure to follow.

The 2 issues for the Oline seem to be;
1. Can Rivers actually play well at tackle? It is clear the coaches love him but he was not great in the spring game
2. Depth. We know Samson can play, but who else do we have as reliable backups at any position?

Really unfortunate that Zion went MIA

He’s the prototypical LT that with experience and great coaching could’ve been a stud for us this year

This is an important topic/point

There’s been a lot of trashing of our S&C over the years and one thing I’ve constantly mentioned is you can have the best S&C coach in the world but if we are not recruiting kids that WANT to dominate then it doesn’t matter

We’ve recruited lazy, entitled kids for a long time and over the years the shift towards moving everyone indoors, especially young people has gotten worse when it comes to distractions

By recruiting better players with the right attitude about being great, it will inherently make the S&C part much easier. The S&C coach isn’t around them 24 hours a day and as anyone can tell you, the gym is only 2 hours a day, so you’ve got 22 other hours to make your real progress

I like the type of kids that are coming into this program right now and seeing the results happening already in the weight room is not surprising

Long ways to go obviously but it’s a shift I’ve been wanting to see for a long time

I forget who it was that laughed at me when I said he’ll start over Rivers.

This dude is the truth. I watched in person at GT, he was washing out an entire section of the DL by himself. As a true freshman.

We got a **** good one.

Saw that too.
Gotta think our run game should be pretty potent, Im interested in seeing how they scheme it up this year with Shannon's offense.

Just judging by body type and movement skills it almost looks like our tackles and center would be better at pulling than our guards. Kind of a strange oddity but maybe they can come with some creative ways to take advantage of that. Especially Mauigoa, dude would be like running behind a semi truck.

Couldn't agree more: https://www.canesinsight.com/threads/our-ol-on-the-move-in-23.185921/

I don't doubt it. I'm just thinking I read something about Tez in Feldman's book or one of Martz's.

It was feldman. Tez was nicknamed Two Play Tez because his conditioning was so **** he could only last 2 plays then took the next 20 off.

His draft year he finally got it togeather and the rest is history.

Excerpt from his book on ESPN. Good read and covers the Canes mentorship of guys in the NFL passing it down. https://www.espn.com/college-football/news/story?id=1878677

There will be alot of "How did Bama and Auburn let him get out of the state??" comments by the announcers over the next 2 years. This guy looks like he will be a stud. And to think idiots like me wanted him at DT! Lol.

I agree but prob never a shot with Mario and Alex once they saw this guys feet and lateral movement. This guy is their wet dream of a prospect
Mario said he thought cooper was going to be a DT and that’s what they originally was recruiting him as but cooper told mario that he wanted to play o-line

Maryland
This a Cortez Kennedy level of transformation in body. Tez turned into a 1st round pick and, for my money, in the same conversation as Brown, Sapp, Maryland and Wilfork.

Or was it Russell Maryland who lost all the Weight? @SWFLCane help me out.

Where there is a will, there is a way.
Maryland was over 400lbs

Yeah...the good old days...

3 "all-you-can-eat" cafeterias, one at Mahoney-Pearson, one at Hecht-Stanford, one in the UC (Hurricane Cafeteria, it was "supposed to be" for Eaton)
1 Eye cafeteria, essentially a Burger King (no joke)
1 Rathskellar, just bar food
1 Ibis cafeteria, just an "a la carte" version of the others, though they had a sandwich area and a couple of other things, it was a forerunner of the food court
1 Force Five convenience store
1 Law School "Subway", they made the sandwiches at the Riviera Subway and brought them over to a refrigerator, later they had a "real" Subway

That was it. Those were our choices in the 1980s and early 90s. No food carts or food trucks, no other choices but to go off-campus.
:):) good memories

Both Tez and Maryland lost weight. You can see in this photo I took of Crum, Armstead and Russ in 1991 how he slimmed down.
