Andy Staples podcast w/Manny about culture-offense-E Reed

Meh. Really exposed him? I'd disagree with that. It was certainly an awful game for Miami's defense, but they had 337 total yards of offense.

The redzone defense was especially terrible, obviously. And that last drive after we tied it was inexcusable. So, no doubt, it was a really ****** game defensively. But I just can't say a team is really exposed when they give up 5.35 YPP. That wasn't even the worst number we gave up last year (UNC, Louisville, UF, & GT were all worse).

I wonder how badly Baker would've been exposed had the offense not started the game with FOUR straight turnovers.
I was watching the game with two casual football fans. When VT was scoring again in the fourth quarter the first comment was they they thought Miami had a good defense. People watching Sportscenter just see the score without the context of the poor field position the offense left them to work with.

Overall, the defense is/was serviceable. Fix the big problems first.

So did Manny know Enos was going run that horrid offense when he hired him or did Dan switch it up when he was on the ground here? Did Manny just wake up during the season to the offense we ‘should’ run? His promises when he was hired didn’t match the scheme we got. How did that really happen?
I think Enos was blindsided with how bad the QB room was. I also don't think Manny fully grasped just how bad it was in there. If we tried to go fast with Williams, we'd have the fastest 3 and outs in history. Manny didn't want that, and was probably just fine with Enos going slow given the QB problems.

Manny thought it would be easy. he said as much. He viewed richt as a clown and thought just remove him and junior and hire anyone and it’ll all go swell.

True but any Coach worth his salt could pick up vibes from the locker room........Actions there show the type of team that you have.
Ask Ed Reed.

Hmmm really? ......So who was really the Head Coach?

Will Manny now try to say that THIS YEAR is really his 1st year as the Miami Head Coach....since last year Enos really made the decisions

No Manny will not say its his 1st year but i think Manny gave Enos a longer leash than he should have. Honestly dude shouldnt have even made it to the bowl game

Unfortunately for Manny, there's a wide gap between knowing that there's a lockeroom issue and knowing how to fix it. The latter is the toughest to do as HC.

I don't think that the DC needed to be fired after last season. Defense was not our problem. But that's not the point. Point is why would you fire him and then have to get some other DC to come learn to run your PROVEN defense all over again? That's taking steps back again. Does not make sense. Next year Baker should have a full grasp of what the defense should look like and run it to perfection.. If not you cut him lose. But every head coach works one side of the ball which they specialize in until they groom someone to run things just like they want them. That is why you see guys that worked under Saban, Leach do well after they leave.
There’s a saying “That when you try to eat an elephant, take a bite at a time”. This philosophy could very well apply to how Manny approached fixing issues. The D was more than capable - it was the O that needed immediate attention.

It wasn't just the QB room. The OL was a huge issue. The WR room had issues grasping the playbook and running their routes properly. I think both Manny and Enos oversold what they were bringing to the table. Manny completely under- estimated what was needed to really fix the offense, hence his over selling what he had. Enos may have intended to run his offense differently but realized pretty quickly he couldn't with the offensive guys he had to work with. His big fault was adapting his system as much as he needed to, despite the fact he thought he did. Add his cold personality to the situation and it was a disaster. IDK if Manny tried to force changes with Enos and he refused or what happened there but I agree there was definitely the appearance of tension early on.... This was never a one season fix except on paper and I'm sure the reality of that added to the stress and tension felt by not just the coaches but the players....

All of this has been discussed over and over. Hopefully this new spread concept offense is easier to learn. It will be the 3rd new offense many of these guys had to learn in their 3 years on the team...

Listened to it. Funny how he mentions Golden era offense and how they couldnt get the defense synced up. Golden was D coach by trade but I remember him being open with offense and even doing tempo stuff and wanting to brand offense as "temp-pro" style offense. Using faced pace spread type and still being pro style for whatever reason. Would even have Morris throwing deep for cheap touchdowns when teams would jump offsides..

Golden did some decent things but was just soo corny and his putting his friendship before the school and hiring a guy who shouldnt be more than a position coach maybe as DC with incredibly bad results was his down fall. I cant believe this dude tied himself to dorito.

That was pretty impressive - Morris has that down. I think there was one game where we got 2 TDs that way?

Dumb post? Cool 👍 You have your opinion just like i have mine . Like i said i think Enos was given too long of a leash doesnt obsolve Manny of everything. His *** is still on the hot seat.

We recruited a bunch of coach killers, if you ask me.
