And So It Begins- eSECpn Can't Control Themselves

We saw the Criteria they have for the selection and Conference Championship does have priority.
People may bring up Penn State but their reasoning was that they lost 2 games while O$U lost only 1.
So if there is a Conference Champion who has the same record as UGA in this weird hypothetical I think they would have to pick the Conference Champion. I don't think the committee could wiggle their way out of it.

They will because...you know....something about sec blah blah blah.
Different rules

I wonder how the ESPN narrative will fit if Bama flat out dominates UGA in the SEC title game. The competition that UGA has faced sans Notre Dame has been pretty mediocre. Kudos to them for at least blowing out their competition.

Espn will find a way to get two sec teams in.

So you think the Committee head would have a press conference and Say the SEC has different rules?
Somehow I don't think that would fly.

I think they would frame it differently than that.
I think they would probably say something about each season being unique...that each season has its own set of circumstances.
We eveluate each situation on its own merits.

I don’t have an issue with the topic. Bama, UGA and ND are the hottest teams now, and UGA beat ND. It’s really not the craziest hypothetical they have done. Even if UGA ends up losing the SEC champ game, I’m not convinced OU, OSU and PSU are better teams. I do think ESPN hypes up the SEC too much but Miami fans about everything too.

if UGA beats bama in Sec (every seems to give it to bama already lol) then Bama shouldnt get in if there are other 1 loss teams. they have a completely cupcake schedule. i actually have great respect for what saban has done but that schedule is total weak sauce.

Just how they devalued winning and played up to the narrative that Miami isn’t good. It’s a clear agenda folks

Good thing ESPN doesn’t decide who makes the playoffs.

Bama is playing with house money. Even if they get beat they will find a way in.

They'd get credit just for scheduling FSU and the narrative would switch to THAT week 1 FSU team was something vasssstly different than the one that just lost to Delaware State.

I actually DO give Lil Nicky credit FOR scheduling those type of games BUT it still shouldn't compensate for a junk schedule being a junk schedule when things actually pan out. And the only teams deserving of benefit of the doubt based on reputation/past achievements should ONLY be whatever team is the defending national champion that year- and even then you could be wading into murky logical waters.

With Alabama playing LSU in the championship several years ago, the question has some precedent.

And that game had some of th lowest ratings ever. So if they want to lose money they will continue that trend. No one wants it except sec fans

Absolute best case scenario for the playoff moneywise is

Georgia, Miami, Ohio State and Notre Dame

It won't happen, because who ever loses Miami/ND is going to be out.

They don't want Bama in there again, Oklahoma/TCU/Wisconsin is not good TV money, Penn State is done, and you either get Miami or Clemson for the third straight year. I think they'd want Miami.

Let's say an undefeated Georgia edges a previously undefeated Alabama team in the SEC title game. Does anybody actually believe that Alabama will be on the outside looking in?

And I totally agree with Tad Footeball Almost all the ESPN college football has some country-fried hick spin to it. The redneck Gameday theme music. That 2017 version of Forrest Gump, Marty Smith. Paul Finebaum. 3/4 of their panelists are from SEC schools. Look, I understand college football is popular in the south but it's like they're ****ting on everybody on the west coast, the mid west and FLorida (south of I-4).

I think they all go in ahead of Bama:

Georgia
Undefeated Miami or 1 Loss Clemson or 1 Loss Virginia Tech
1 Loss Notre Dame
1 Loss Ohio State or undefeated Wisconsin
1 Loss TCU or 1 loss Oklahoma

What's Bama's best win if they lose the SEC Title Game? Every team they beat will probably be unranked by the end of the year.

Hahaha! Well played....and spot on!

Herbstreit's first comment was " if it's close then they should put bama and UGA in" .. no two teams that play eachother for the conference should get in to the playoff, they should be able to disqualify one.

Deebo Samuel will return from broken leg Saturday and the gamecocks will put an end to UGA playoff hopes

I don't see why people are acting like this is weird. Those those two teams have been stomping people and they're undefeated. Lots of teams are going to lose to teams you don't expect them to. The season is getting long, everybody nicked up, your mind is tired. It's getting cold, there is film on everybody. Watch out
