And so it begins…..CFP rankings chat

No, you root for BYU to win out and go undefeated including the title. That would give Texas Tech at least two losses and potentially Texas Tech or Utah three losses if they’re in the championship game.
I disagree. I think BYU drop another so i don’t want them sitting with 0 or 1 loss entering big 12 CG. If they lose this week they might be behind Miami in next weeks rankings.

ND @ Pitt is the most important remaining game on the schedule and it isn’t on your list.

If ND loses, they are out and a spot opens up. Additionally, Pitt gets ranked even higher so it’ll be a better win for Miami.

If pitt doesn’t win that game it’s a very tough path.
Mine was purely ACC

There's nothing to chat about. We earned the ******* ranking. We got exactly what we deserve, even if others got more than they deserve. Maybe this is the swift kick in the **** Mario needs to get over himself and worry more about points than controlling every minute of the game. K9 is right, the idea that TOP matters more than points or productivity is Cristobal's biggest flaw.

lol you guys are hilarious I’m sure Utah vandy notre dame and Texas feel the same way

Not rooting against the canes but if we make the CFP, Mario changes nothing... it is tuff and fizical for the next 8 years

Rinse and repeat next few years

I think if (very big if) we get in it will be because he made a change starting with the Syracuse game. A change that leaves his OC alone and a philosophical change to play loose and score points as the top goal of the O.

Just being honest here. Do we look like a team who belongs in the playoffs? Absolutely not. Our eye test is killing us more than anything. Although Texas doesn’t deserve their ranking

Yes. Absolutely. Three weeks ago we looked like the most complete team in the country to alot of people who know football.

We're still that team. The only difference is Beck had a bad game against Louisville and officials f#cked us against Smu.

Did Alabama look like a team that belongs in the playoff when they were losing in the 4th to Scar?

Did Georgia look like a team that belongs in the playoff when they were losing in the 4th to uF?

Outside of *osu and Indiana there isn't another team in the country who looks unbeatable.

I don't know. If Notre Dame and USF are in the playoff and Miami is 10-2 I don't know how you keep Miami out in that scenario. Especially if Louisville somehow makes it to the ACCCG. Honestly, outside of somehow making the ACCCG, Louisville/Notre Dame/USF being in the playoff is probably the best situation for Miami.

But Miami needs to go out and win by 30+ in every game.

By far the biggest hindrance to Miami's chances is the fact that the committee told you last night, in no uncertain terms, the ACC is a one-bid league.

Yes, there's a chance we have an insane run-out, a bunch of teams lose, we win out big in every game etc. etc. We are +500 to make the playoff. That's not +5000. There's a chance.

But the committee is not going to put 2 ACC teams into this thing unless they have literally no other choice. They said that with a megaphone last night. This is a one-bid league.

If you think our rank versus ND is bad, look at ND vs Louisville.

ND is 6-2.
Best win is #19 USC, a home.
Losses by 3 at #18 Miami and 1 to #3 Texas A&M, at home
They're ranked 10th

Louisville is 7-1
Best win is #18 Miami, on the road. Also beat #24 Pitt, on the road. Also beat 7-1 JMU.
Loss in overtime to #14 UVA
They're ranked 15th.

So Louisville has a better win than ND, and an additional ranked win ND doesn't have
They have a "better loss" than ND does. And ND has another loss on top of that one.
And they're 5 spots higher.

Says it all right there.

An excerpt from the Herald:

Rhoades, speaking Tuesday on a conference call after the rankings were revealed, said the committee looks at each team’s “full, total body of work” when determining rankings. This includes looking at their “performance on the field, their strength of schedule, their head-to-head matchups and results against common opponents.”

Despite saying otherwise earlier in his conference call, Rhoades said Miami’s recent losses did play a factor in putting them at No. 18 because of how they lost, specifically citing the offense’s six combined turnovers and inability to close out games in the two defeats. “Early on, I think, like everybody else in the country, [we] held them in high, high regard,” Rhoades said. “Certainly the win against Notre Dame [was good], but with recent losses — that Friday night game to a Louisville team that came into Miami and then obviously the game at SMU — I think offensively right now, Miami is struggling a bit, and so the committee felt strongly in terms of where we ranked Miami.” Rhoades also then clarified that head-to-head becomes a bigger factor “when the teams are comparable at the margins,” which is why they didn’t use it as significantly when considering Miami against Notre Dame as it did for other teams (like No. 4 Alabama vs. No. 5 Georgia, No. 11 Texas vs. No. 12 Oklahoma and No. 14 Virginia vs. No. 15 Louisville, for example).

And while Rhoades credited Miami for the win over Notre Dame, he said the committee “felt strongly” that the Fighting Irish “is a team that when you look at Week 1 to now, a team that has improved, has gotten better.” Notre Dame lost its first two games to Miami and Texas A&M, the latter of which is No. 3 in the initial rankings, by a combined four points before winning its past six games, although the only notable opponent in that span was USC, which the committee has ranked No. 19. “When we look at the tape,” Rhoades said, “we think Notre Dame is a really solid football team.” There are five two-loss teams ranked ahead of Miami: No. 10 Notre Dame, No. 11 Texas, No. 12 Oklahoma, No. 13 Utah and No. 16 Vanderbilt.

If Miami played their non-competitive schedule, we’d look good too.

ND wins:
Purdue 2-7
Arkansas 2-7
Boise St 6-3
NC St 5-4
USC 6-2
Boston College 1-8

We will always be held to a different standard.

I wasn’t until I realized how high up they are. Now i am.

It feels like the committee arbitrarily awards teams for beating ranked opponents who become unranked. If beating Cincy is so impressive, then they should stand on that and rank them ahead of Tennessee and/or others.
That is a huge problem. I don’t care what teams were ranked at the beginning of the season (looking at Penn State).

What matters is your total win/loss record now.
