Trying to only hit stuff I haven’t seen discussed much.

-Probably the biggest play of the game that no one has mentioned was the Q3 VT long rush TD that got called back for holding. Morten got abused on that play and it absolutely was not a hold. We got bailed out there.

-Moten played a lot but he just isn’t that good & he had another penalty. Clark is weak at the point of attack. Which leads me to say…

-Justin Scott is bigger and stronger than our starters and needs more snaps. Conditioning might be an issue here bc he isn’t used to that SFla heat/humidity. But he held his own in the snaps he got and has a higher ceiling than the aforementioned guys.

-Another huge play that we benefitted from: VT called a timeout after the 3rd down sack on the last drive of the first half with :25 left. Not sure why they’d call this. Shoulda called it with 2 seconds left and Miami wouldn’t have got 3 after the long CJ return. Pry clock management is worse than Mario, and that’s saying something. There’s a reason he is 1-10 in 1-score games.

-61 looks like a day 1 pick. He dominated the 2nd half, usually facing APR. (Though he did get smoked on the shovel pass to Reily at the end of the game and Cam bailed us out.)

-McCoy had a pretty decent day as well.

-Bell looks clumsy and has a hard time hitting his target. He struggled at times (got dusted by APR on a 3rd and 10 and almost got Ward decapitated) but also had decent moments in pass protection. As a backup LT he is serviceable.

-73 is overrated by this board.

-Mark Fletcher had a few excellent blitz pickups.

-Huge drop by VT on the first play after Ward’s Q3 int. Woulda been 1st and goal at the 2.

-What a dime down the sideline when Mike Irving was fired up with restrepo.

-Kiko got trucked by tooten on the td run. He had a rough night. D$ was spot on here, kiko struggled in space.

-Drones embarrassed Jaden Harris bad on the reverse TD. Gonna be an embarrassing film review.

VT had a solid gameplan and executed. We took their best shot and came away with a win. Survive and advance.

I can't remember who actually got called for that holding penalty on their 55 yard td, but tyler baron was absolutely held plainly on the far right of all the clips by #70 on the OL. he wouldn't have made a play on it anyways and probably not who they called it on but it was obvious and blatant

I'm going to stop you right there, because you are completely wrong.

The center's right hand is clearly holding Moten's left sleeve, which is what impeded Moten from getting upfield. Then, as Moten attempts to flow to his right and puts out his right hand to grab the runner, he is thrown to the ground.

And that throwdown was set up by the initial hold, pictured below, from the ref's point-of-view. You know, the ref who actually threw the flag because he saw what was captured on video.

No "bail out". Correct call. Holding. Perhaps a minor hold, but it actually occurred. And the ref threw the flag long before he knew the outcome of the play, unlike several other calls that went against us.

The center, #68, was correctly called for the holding, as the video replay clearly shows.

They say holding can be called on every snap if the refs wanted to. This play was not an instance where it should’ve been called.

Not only should it have been called, but the WR on the outside was holding all the way down the field, which is why the TD was even scored.

CiS: “Refs never call holding on the other team when they’re constantly holding our guys.”

Refs finally call holding…

CiS: “Refs bailed us out. Our guy wasn’t being held that one time.”

25 was worse than 0, but both are replacement level ACC players at best.

I thought 19 was maybe kinda okay?

OJ is our best cover guy and our most physical DB. Crazy.

It has nothing to do with whether it "should've been called". It was called. There was a violation. It doesn't matter if it's a minor hold or a major hold. It happened. The ref saw it. The ref called it.

YOU were the one who said "it absolutely was not a hold". And it was. It's not for you to belatedly argue severity. You said it didn't happen. It did.

I get it. You fell victim to Andre Ware telling you that it never happened. You were brainwashed by a Heisman Trophy winner. Andre Ware even had the nerve to question whether the VaTech hold had any impact on the play. As if "harmless error" was another type of excuse to blame the refs. That, and Andre Ware telling us how the poor poor center was throwing up his hands and protesting.

I don't give a ****. If it was a phantom holding call, I'd admit it and move on. You know, like the one against Markel Bell that you didn't bother to mention. Which was far more egregious, since there was literally NO HOLDING. The defender spun himself around and fell down. And Andre Ware didn't give two ***** about that play, but whined about the holding call against VaTech that you can CLEARLY SEE.

You want to argue "severity" or "harmless error", do so elsewhere. But don't bull**** us with "it absolutely was not a hold". It was.

Completely true.

The ****y VaTech fans will try to tell us that the "bad calls" (of which this one was actually a good call) impacted them too. But that's just not true.

The terrible holding call against Miami resulted in a 14 point swing.

The ACCURATE holding call against VaTech just required them to run more plays before scoring a TD.

Two completely different situations. But VaTech fans (and Miami-fans/VaTech-apologists) are going to try to act as if these two calls were equivalent. They were not.

You’re right, they did score on that drive (so I guess it didn’t really matter). And yes, bell didn’t hold.

I couldn’t watch the game live and so saw the replay of the game. I had heard some fans claiming that we got lucky the play was called back and I was looking for it on the replay, not knowing who it was called on. Funny thing is, I saw a blatant hold down the field by a WR who had two fistfuls of the DBs jersey. I couldn’t believe people thought VT got screwed on the hold as it was clear as day the DB was being held. Turns out that wasn’t even the hold VT fans were complaining about. The VT OL held the UM d-lineman as a poster showed above, but whether a ref occasionally lets that kind of hold at the LOS go unpenalized is beside the point, they absolutely got away with an egregious hold further down the field that is called 100% of the time.
