Amari Carter Hit Observation

Great play by Carter. They will call that every time with the new rules. But I guarantee the teams we play this year will know who #5 is.

Amari Carter did everything right on that play. He turned to get his head out of the hit and lead with his shoulder. Unfortunately the WR ducked down and lead with his head. It's dumb how that's a targeting penalty on the safety when the WR is at fault.
The QB is at fault - he threw his WR into trouble.

That's how the game has changed - no wonder passing numbers are sky high, you can throw over the middle with impunity now.

Although the UVA WR was defenseless, you can clearly see Carter making a attempt to turn his helmet and strike with the shoulder pad which he successfully did. There was no launching or leading with the crown of the helmet. The play actually looked worse than it really was because officials are so hyper-focussed on this. The flag should have been picked up. Watch Saturday's games you'll see far worse.

it was without a doubt targeting. I doubt Amari did it on purpose, but it was still targeting.
Receiver ducked his head. DBs are going to have to maim guys at the knees or not get involved in the play. No win situation.
