With so much film out there these days, it would be HARD for a competent staff to not have a good idea what the other team does. Every team probably has a couple analysts that focus on other teams. Some smart kid probably has a computer program that takes this to the next level.
That said, we ultimately made it easier for them with our conservative playcalling in the first half, both offensively and defensively. I think we spooked ourselves with Xavier being out for first half and wanting to shorten the first half as much as possible, which took away opportunities to be aggressive. Which is ironic, because we ended up having multiple 3 and outs in the first half.
A team with better talent generally doesn't need to shorten games, but we tricked ourselves in thinking Indiana might be the better talent in the first half. The second half we finally realized we were the more talented team and if one of two plays goes differently (Bauman’s td for Indiana or Beck’s INT) we win the game.
We open the Indiana game with the same aggressiveness that we showed against Ohio State, we easily beat Indiana.
This year will be different. Going to be exciting.
