Am I the only one that felt Indiana in the first half

We are the most scouted program by our opponents. If they can get a leg up on us because of our lazy preparations or lack of creativity, then it’s our fault. I know the rumors before the game that they were using AI to some degree to game plan, the truth is, even that can be mitigated. The script needs to be flipped, with us scouting our opponents to shreds. If we do that, our playbook in their hands means $#!t to a tree.

Any team that isn't using AI models is going to be falling behind fast. There is so much data available and teams that know how to use it will have a big advantage. Not just statistical data but even positional and vector data (where players are on the field, how fast they are moving, etc). AI is far more efficient at identifying trends and patterns across those data sets than any human.

Then self scouting, knowing your opponent is looking at the same data, how can you use that to counter or exploit them in key situations?

Once everyone has caught up it always comes back to individual matchups (your dudes being dudes) and coordinators who can feel the game and break tendencies to keep a defense guessing.

Surprised they were stunting into the A gap? No. Sitting on your couch, you knew we'd run there.

Surprised our oline couldn't move them? Yes. Undersized dline moving laterally and you can't move them? Almost like we didn't practice how we'd handle their stunting.

Heck, it didn't surprise me that it took dawson until halftime to adjust. That's been him all year. Dawson's flaws seem to be in video study and game planning. He often seems to mix up his notes and has his "what not to do" sheet get mixed in with his "do this" stuff.

But why did it take an entire half of football to stop giving them 8 yard outs. It took an entire half to finally come up and play press.
Uhh Xavier Lucas is why

With so much film out there these days, it would be HARD for a competent staff to not have a good idea what the other team does. Every team probably has a couple analysts that focus on other teams. Some smart kid probably has a computer program that takes this to the next level.

That said, we ultimately made it easier for them with our conservative playcalling in the first half, both offensively and defensively. I think we spooked ourselves with Xavier being out for first half and wanting to shorten the first half as much as possible, which took away opportunities to be aggressive. Which is ironic, because we ended up having multiple 3 and outs in the first half.

A team with better talent generally doesn't need to shorten games, but we tricked ourselves in thinking Indiana might be the better talent in the first half. The second half we finally realized we were the more talented team and if one of two plays goes differently (Bauman’s td for Indiana or Beck’s INT) we win the game.

We open the Indiana game with the same aggressiveness that we showed against Ohio State, we easily beat Indiana.

This year will be different. Going to be exciting.

The lack of in half adjustments by Dawson wasted the first 30 minutes of the game. I went back and watched the first half on the skycast feed. Their CBs were crashing down on Run plays. If our outside receiver immediately broke inside to block, they crashed down. Im talking not even tracking the receiver. A simple RPO throw would have kept them honest and kept the edge clean for outside runs. Don’t think we did it once.

I said before either of us made the championship game that they were stealing signals.

Its extremely obvious.

AND WE STILL SHOULD HAVE BEAT ThEM.

Ive blocked that game put tbh. The more I think about it, the more upset I get.

Ive said it multiple times we respected them wayyy too much in first half and game plan on both sides of ball didnt make sense in first half..

Those free access throws we gave Mendoza when in all their film and leadup to game they talked about their offense always taking easy yards is a hard one to swallow.. I know people hate when its pointed out and will say he is coach, he knows more but even belichek and saban were dumbfounded if they were calling it out on national tv (coaches rarely like to do that to each other)..

I saw on one clip they were on 20 yard line redzone going in and they had OJ playing like 8 yards off BAILING IN REDZONE TO COVER THE PARKING LOT FOR DEEP PASS I GUESS.. He bailed to like the 3 yard line before he broke on easy pass, WR almost scored but got ball to one and they scored after.. What deep pass are they scared of in redzone to give up easy pass like that? FML.. Such a missed opportunity, took us 23 years to get back, nothing is guaranteed. Ugh.

Was the tale of two halves with Mendoza. Went from a 65% passer to a 40% and should have been a pick 6. Ended up with a bunch of pressures and sacks in the second half as well.
