Alonzo Highsmith talks about potential job with Miami

Oh ok. In retrospect, Diaz shouldn’t have got this job. But here we are so bringing in Highsmith would help current and identify what we need in next staff.
Exactly. That last part I was referring to myself but that dude attacks anything that doesn't say fire Diaz. I want him fired too but no way that's going to happen now. Also, like I posted before, Highsmith will help with so many issues above Diaz and will help when it comes time to find his replacement.

Exactly. We sure as **** don’t need to recruit better to beat FIU, GT, UNC, Puke, and VT. If he truly believes what he said, then I hope to **** he doesn’t get a job here.

Highsmith was a great player and remains a great Cane, but hiring former Canes scares me because as well-meaning as they can be, they may show propensity to stick within their circle of buddies when hiring...we need young rising coaching talent from strong coaching trees....not Winston Moss or Ken Dorsey.

If our only goal were to beat FIU maybe that works. But if our goals include national relevancy, then we have to do a lot of things better, several of which can get lumped into recruiting. Evaluate, for sure. We have kids who celebrate when we’re losing. That’s on manny and his culture, for sure. But not 100% on him - Ed Reed sure wouldn’t have been celebrating like that. Evals, roster management, depth, overall talent, these are deficiencies today. Not justifications for losing to FIU, but impediments to getting to where we want to be. If the admin hires someone to oversee football, he sure better appreciate all of the various ways the program is deficient. Otherwise we’ll be playing whack-a-mole for 2 more decades.

Idk if you listened but he answered like he didn’t want to throw anyone under the bus. He didn’t say we’re losing because of the talent. Was asked about the Enos comment about system don’t win championships. He mentioned LSU going spread but also said they have first round talent. So he seems aware.

I’m aware of all that. But if the first thing out of his mouth is recruiting better, then he’s no different than anyone else already here. Of course we have to recruit better to be a top 5 program. But we don’t need to recruit better to beat every team we lost to this year.

Baby steps. String together a couple 10 win seasons and Coastal titles before you start talking about beating Alabaga and Clemson.

Had we coached better, we’d be a 10 or 11 win team right now, and guess what else we’d be doing better? That’s right, old friend. Recruiting. We will never recruit better as long as we’re losing to the likes of FIU and GT and Puke because elite recruits won’t want to hitch their wagon to a toxic dump like the one Manure has created.

LSU had that same talent last year and were average overall and below average offensively. LSU is the ultimate example of a team that benefited tremendously from better coaching.

The thing for me is I see expressions of incompetence everywhere around the program. When I say recruit better, I don’t just mean get higher rated recruits. I mean evaluate and recruit like we have a plan and know how to go about executing it. Manure’s incompetence is irrepressable.

I agree better coaching will beget better recruiting outcomes. But if the program is going to actually be relevant, recruiting needs process and focus just like other aspects of coaching do. Our rankings don’t excite me, in any case, because I have no confidence in our staff’s evals. And without above average evaluation ability, rankings are not very meaningful.

I'd like to have him on staff but Id really like him to see the reality of recruiting in this day with the bag game and all. Things done changed Alonzo.

Exactly. The root of our problems isn't recruiting. The lack of recruiting success is merely a symptom. And I've been saying that for years.

Exactly. Alonzo is coming from a scouting background so he speaking on identifying and evaluating talent.

His interview is at min 35.
Brief summary.. He would be interested if they call him. He spoke on how he speaks to college coaches often so he know what the job entails. He also said Miami need to recruit better.
Glad to know he's in agreement with us regarding crootin better, but who the fvck is gonna develop these dudes once they get here?

How fast does this board turn on Alonzo if the Canes don't win at least 10 in his first year? Lol

He will be judged by holding everyone accountable and INSISTING on success and not excuses.

He won’t be judged by wins and loses year one. He will be judged by raising the sense of urgency in the coaching staff.

One of the things that bother me with Manny and Enos is the lack of urgency. They make excuses and deflect responsibility, but they don’t talk and act like guys who are driven to win RIGHT NOW.

If the pressure Alonzo broke nags gets these guys moving in a way that isn’t t so ho hum and off the “ aww shucks, we just need to execute better and get more talent”, that alone would be progress.

It's definitely a major part:
1. Evaluating
2. Recruiting
3. Developing

We haven't even had 2 out of 3 since Butch.

Until we get a staff in place at UM that is competent and can do more with less, we will never dig our way out of this whole. Unfortunately, our staff is elite in doing less with more

It’s quite the vicious cycle
