Alonzo Highsmith talks about potential job with Miami

It's definitely a major part:
1. Evaluating
2. Recruiting
3. Developing

We haven't even had 2 out of 3 since Butch.

Development and coaching has been why recruiting has taken a hit. Perfect example - Rumph and Banda have opposite personalities and approaches to recruiting, yet they both in the end miss out on a lot of elite prospects cycle after cycle. Reason being, Miami hasn't been relevant for 15 years and counting, on top of that, can we look recruits in the eye and say we'll develop them the same as Bama, Clemson, UGA, etc..? The answer is no. Coaching is another thing, for most kids, they want to win and be put in a position to win. They don't want to lose to basketball schools or to FIU. If Miami was consistently winning 10 games a year and constantly in the ACC title game, we wouldn't even be talking recruiting. Our struggles as a program has opened the door for other marquee programs to thrive so that they can poach talent whenever and wherever they chose. Miami seems to actually be pretty good on evaluating talent, it's just that guys we target early on in which they blow up, essentially get better offers and leave us with our **** in our hands - Height this year, Crowley last year.

Highsmith was a great player and remains a great Cane, but hiring former Canes scares me because as well-meaning as they can be, they may show propensity to stick within their circle of buddies when hiring...we need young rising coaching talent from strong coaching trees....not Winston Moss or Ken Dorsey.
Sure, but look at his resume. This isn’t like fools calling for Ken Dorsey to be the OC.

I’m aware of all that. But if the first thing out of his mouth is recruiting better, then he’s no different than anyone else already here. Of course we have to recruit better to be a top 5 program. But we don’t need to recruit better to beat every team we lost to this year.

Baby steps. String together a couple 10 win seasons and Coastal titles before you start talking about beating Alabaga and Clemson.

Had we coached better, we’d be a 10 or 11 win team right now, and guess what else we’d be doing better? That’s right, old friend. Recruiting. We will never recruit better as long as we’re losing to the likes of FIU and GT and Puke because elite recruits won’t want to hitch their wagon to a toxic dump like the one Manure has created.

Recruit better or Coach better...this Staph sucks sour @@ at both

Starting to believe he wants the AD role and not just some “football GM” Bullshizzzz

He might In fact come if the football team again struggles and coach L struggles to get his team into the tourney... James might be on the way out

I hope you're correct but is there anyone at the University who has the competence to put these pieces together?

If you are going to hire Alonzo then he should be able to wipe the slate clean immediately.

I dont understand the idiots who think Zo should evaluate Diaz after a year. Diaz is a complete joke and needs to be removed immediately.

Half the people who want this want to use it as an excuse to give Diaz more time.

The players need to take more ownership or we will continue to struggle, no matter who the coach is.

No doubt that coaching is the main issue. Scheme changes is just the starting point to get this shît right. But u also have the staff recruiting ton of safeties while the roster has 5 cb. The same goes for recruiting guards when we need tackles. Height situation is total lack of awareness on the staff part. So yeah major incompetence!!

The simpletons of this fanbase who are excited about bringing in some random non coaching position as if this is the fix to our problems really kill me.

Alonzo Highsmith isnt going to help manny not be incompetent and a horrible recruiter.

If you are excited about this, you are a total moron.

You’re right bringing in someone over qualified to oversee coach hiring, coach retention and personnel can’t possibly add value.

We need Alonzo Highsmith to tell us that Manny and his staff are putrid and have the resumes of a MAC staff?

Just fire the actual problems in Diaz and Blake, hire a real AD and coach, and bam problem solved.

This idea that Alonzo Highsmith is needed is so stereotypical moron Miami fan.

Why the **** can't we just make this happen. I 100% have more faith in Highsmith than I would Blake James or whichever other idiots are making decisions about this football program.

Does anyone else find it odd that Highsmith is supposedly a high level NFL executive, but he spends a bunch of time on Twitter talking about the UM situation and makes no mention of his employer or job in his Twitter bio?

Wasn’t he just a scout forever? What are his actual duties in Cleveland?

How about a novel idea? Fire Fake. Hire a real AD. Fire Manure. Hire a real HC.

Don't insult the MAC like that.
