i hate to say omar was right but i guess he was when zo told him on NYE that he wants to be an NFL gm. if we were a placeholder for him to find that other gig, then it may be for the best.

Yep exactly what will happen. Alonso will be the one who looks for the next coach. The only thing that can derail that is if he becomes a GM
 
What makes y’all think Zo would come back in a calendar year? Him not coming means he will be employed elsewhere and he shouldn’t have too much trouble getting a quality position if he wants it.

This might’ve blown the Zo opportunity for another 2-3 years or possibly ever. Dude isn’t gonna spend the latter half of his life waiting on UM.

Yup. Probably never was gonna happen and never will.

We're looking at a USC situation, where even with improvement and an increased win total, theres just no heat around the brand.

Next years class, even with 10 wins, will be in the 25 to 30 range.

We'll need at least two seasons of a quality on field product with significant wins before we get back in the Top 10 to 15 range.

Miami would never recruit in the 25 to 30 range during and immediately after a 10 win season. The elite local kids haven't been given a reason to even consider Miami as an option. Look at what happened when Miami won 10 in 2017, even though anyone with eyes knew that team was a bit of a fraud and got by with smoke and mirrors. Still, it helped launch that recruiting class and winning 10 games has to be the starting point.

One class doesn't get us to the level of Clemson, but you have to start somewhere. Win 10 games, look good in at least most of those games, then you can sell the local kids. Some will stay. You get more to stay when you follow a 10 win season with another 10 win season. Florida's doing it right now.

The problem is, our schedule is so bad, they might luck into a decent season which will cover all of this up for another season.

Manny and his staff are toxic and suspect. Theres too much distrust locally right now.

More importantly, they suck at recruiting. He didnt even really get a first year bump, and if you consider 18th a bump, then that doesnt bode very well for the future.

From the Herald article this morning:


Highsmith had spoken with Miami athletic director Blake James and football coach Manny Diaz about a more modest chief of staff role. But the responsibilities and salary were below someone of Highsmith’s experience. He began working in the NFL in 1999 as a scout for the Green Bay Packers before rising in the ranks, and has always kept his finger on the pulse of Miami Hurricanes football.


In the end, Highsmith indicated, it was the Miami Board of Trustees members who wanted him more than the current staff, as Diaz likely didn’t want someone looking over his shoulder on day-to-day issues.


“There never was really a lot of talk other than trustees wanted me,’’ Highsmith told the Herald.
 
Clean slate in 2021. Bring in Alono and Mario. We all know how this season will turn out. OC will not save the two clown jobs. What’s 1 more year of **** right? It’s been almost 2 decades.

Haven't read the entire thread but the even more concerning thing about this is that Epstein, Manny Sr. and that crew still hold more power than the likes of Stu Miller and the other big money who want real change. I'm no longer convinced that things will implode for Manny and Blake even if next year goes the same or worse than this year.
 
If the BOT has the stones, at minimum they hire Highsmith to conduct an in-depth analysis of the program and provide a report listing the deficiencies and recommendations. At worst it gives the decision makers more proof that Diaz and James are incompetent. At best it's shows the BOT that Highsmith understands what is needed to return to greatness and they give him a permanent position.
