All the boxes seem checked..but there is an elephant in the room...

The defense isn’t all that. They don’t consistently get pressure.

I think game one was a product of it being game one. Miami was rolling out a new defense with 6 transfers starting as well as Norte Dame rolling out a QB that had no college tape to study.

The play that got them back in the game was a busted coverage by Toure and Thomas, two guys who didn’t arrive until summer. Secondly Miami simply did not think Carr would run the ball and they were not prepared for it.

The big difference between week 1 defense and the defense that will face Florida this Saturday is experience in the system and enough game tape on DJ and Florida’s to know exactly how to stop them.

it is a legitimate point by the otherwise mopping @fraggle

it was a bust by Thomas not Taure, as per Hetherman.

agree with your analysis 100% plus add the penalties and the offense stalling (the defense also stalled).

Didn’t we give them everything underneath and just go 3 and out with HB dives?

BC we played perfecrtly and we dismantled South Florida from beginning to end... I keep going back to the ND game and wonder how our vaulted defense allowed 17 points in the 4th quarter. We dominated for 3 quarters but the most important quarter, the 4 finger quarter, the one where games are won or lost we gave up 17 points and ND actually had a shot at pulling it out after being dominated. Shades of recent teams that disappointed after terrific starts. This week I hope they erase my caution as to back or not back, dominate the gator and I relax.
This is college football, in the second half vs USF we had are second team in. Did you watch Georgia vs Tennessee teams play it was a shoot out against good defenses, of course Notre Dame scored on us. Teams will get big plays it is expected, they will have breakdowns. The goal is to minimize and create more for your offense. This isn’t the 85 bears or 2001 Canes team we are not going to overwhelm teams with talent.

Mario’s fault there. Burned through bad DCs (so far so good w CH) and Portal Kombat over development seems to be his game.

Hope Hetherman stays + MC relies more on program guys with 1-2 transfers sprinkled in + with Feld gone development improves.
I agree about the transfers, there were too many missies in the 22 and 23 class, but looking at the current make up of the team I can finally see a world where Miami is only hand picking 4 or 5 transfers to supplement the roster.

If they can have another year where they retain 90% of the good players that are eligible to return, Miami should go into spring 2-3 deep at every position with returning players.

QB 3 players eligible to return
HB 4 players eligible to return (technically 5 but I can’t see Fletcher returning)
WR 7 players eligible to return
TE 4 players eligible to return
OT 4 players eligible to return
OG 4 players eligible to return
C 3 players eligible to return

DE 7 players eligible to return
DT 5 players eligible to return (could be 6 but I believe Moten declares for the draft)
LB 5 players eligible to return (could be 6 if Chase gets a medical redshirt)
CB 6 players eligible to return
N 2 players eligible to return
S 4 players eligible to return

What still drives me nuts is that they still seem to have at least one play every game when they miss a sure sack, the QB runs around back there evading defenders for what feels like 30 seconds, and eventually throws a perfect dart to a wide open receiver for a big play, almost always at an important junction of the game, too.

I feel like I've been watching that garbage for decades.

The refs helped them out tremendously. Too many bogus calls kept their drives alive.

one of the worst pressure rates in the country, i believe ranked 125 and these goofs got blocked by future pizzeria owners in Long Island. Imagine being blocked by Wario Luigi Mario Peach and Toad, thats what happened to UF,

There’s ~16 year one transfers in the 2-deep this year alone not including the 2 kickers and a long snapper.

He’s going to pull another: QB, RB, WR, TE, LT, C, RT, DE, DT, ILB, NB, S, PK, LS this off-season.
