I’m probably in the extreme minority here, but I would be happy consistently fielding 9+ win teams and maybe making a run in the CFP once every 3 years or so. Winning a Natty these days is reserved for the .5% of college football and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. I don’t know if any coach can bring Miami back to winning championships considering the severe lack of parity in CFB right now. I’m hoping NIL and the portal can make the 2nd tier programs good enough to compete with the 1st tier programs because right now, anyone not named Georgia, Alabama and maybe Ohio State has practically 0 chance of winning a National Championship.
If 2nd/3rd tier programs like Miami, Texas, USC, Wisconsin, and Penn State can use NIL and the portal at the expense of lower tier P5/G5 programs to fill holes and add depth, it could bring back parity and excitement in college football. Depth is often overlooked when we talk about championship caliber teams. Alabama ran through everyone in 2020 despite COVID-19 affecting rosters because they had so much depth at every position. Clemson ran out of gas once they reached the CFP that year, getting blasted by an Ohio State team who only played 5 games before their semifinal matchup. Programs like FAU, FIU, and USF take depth away from schools like Miami. Imagine if TY Hilton and Alfred Morris played at Miami. These lesser programs hardly existed when Miami was winning Championships.
