All-22 Review of the OL vs. CMU

Good stuff brother. I’ve been talking up 71 since he arrived then he had the injury which was a big setback. Now we’re seeing more of what I expected. He can play inside or out but for what we need guard is the spot. Now that he’s looking close to fully recovered I’d like to see more of him and 58 at guards.

He looked better vs CMU than FAMU was it where he looked underwhelming? I had high hopes for him as well. Maybe it'll be 58 and 71 on Sat

I never said poor or even average. In my opinion Meriweather looked better. We need both.
 
I want to see Ben be more aggressive but I understand he’s learning. I honestly think this OL is gonna be top OL by time year 3 rolls around.

We stilll haven’t seen Irvin either

I never said poor or even average. In my opinion Meriweather looked better. We need both.

Meriweather was terrible against FAMU and wasn't as good as Max vs CMU in far less snaps. Not sure at all how anyone can say he should play over Max. Its just not at all logical. It's nice to know there's another G who can play other than SJ. Max being a young player is sure to take his lumps at some point. Max has been my guy within a few minutes of watching the Stanford tape. He's going to be a good player.

I like max too but sj being so terrible has saved him from more criticism

disagree. it's made his play look worse. in fact he's been the best IOL. he was the highest graded by PFF in his worst game Wake. anyone not expecting some whiffs and errors from a dude playing still his 4th game is delusional. Congdon likely is going to take his lumps this week.

It's not an aggressive scheme. I know it seems like it should be but Duo and Wide Zone aren't knocking d- in dirt concepts.

They're 2 pitter patter steps, catching the DL with "tip of spear" (@Dwinstitles just paused) blocking tech and playing stalemate as the back squeezes through.

Would like to see the boys block better in space. That's a HUGE item missing without SiSi around

Best IOL is a very low bar for us thru 4 games. Im not saying he doesn’t deserve grace but we’re rotating RGs for a reason

Max hasn't really been rotating. They've been moving him right to left when SJ goes out. He's clearly a starter. I agree that it's a low bar and he needs to pick up his play but the guy clearly actually has potential and can become a player. He's been pretty solid in the run game his problem has been in past protection a couple times getting his weight too far forward and giving up a pressure.

I've hardly seen Max name brought up on this board. The only time I hear him brought up is in the all 22 but it's mainly questioning why he can't stay squared up.

SJ is the person who has taken a beating, and with good reason.

Ryan is next behind him, and that is because when he's bad, he's bad.

Got an entire thread after this last game, ripping McCoy to shreds.

Yes , FAMU you could see he was still getting back in the swing of things since injury. Very tentative imo. I’d like to him time increase but Max hasn’t done anything to lose his spot yet. But he hasn’t been great either. He’s been ok but SJ has all tge focus because it’s so obvious

I think you’re overselling Max here lol. He’s been the most consistent inside but that doesn’t mean he’s been good. He has his own lowlights SJ just has alot more. I don’t think he needs benched but he’s far from having his spot locked down. I do think Ben being inside with him and RR will help things dramatically.

I didn't say he was good. But we have 1 game with Meriweather looking awful and another game of him looking the same as Max. All of a sudden hes the new shiny thing to rescue us.

But I do think Max will end up a good player. He's on that path. We can expect Congdon to struggle at times exactly how we've seen Max struggle.
