Mario wanted the job when Richt left that is a fact. He was fully prepared to leave Oregon

Some of the dummies refuse to believe that as they get their kicks out of sh#tting on the program and saying no one would leave Oregon for Miami. I believe the sticking point was Cristobal's buyout. Flake James lowballed Oregon so the school had no reason to let Mario leave (even though he wanted to).

I also think Miami could do better than Cristobal BUT he would have been a far better choice than Diaz (and I was saying that at the time). If you look at what Ed Orgeron and Dabo Sweeney have in common, it's that both are top recruiters. Cristobal is also a great recruiter- one of the best. Diaz is a poor recruiter. That, more than Xs and Os, is why I don't think Diaz lasts 4 years.

How is that a fact? How do you even know what Mario did or didn’t want? Reporters and/or fan sites saying he was a candidate does not equate to fact. It could easily be much more likely he was going to stay in Oregon even if offered.

How do you even know how much or even if James made an offer to Cristobal/Oregon?

This is madness. People thinking their fantasy thought patterns are facts. I think that’s called delusion.

Believe what you want but Mario wanted the job. I know someone who personally spoke to mario about the job and mario made it clear if he was going to come it had to be a done deal as to not jepordize the historic class Oregon brought in by their standards. Again call me a liar idc this is what happened

In a vaccum, I think Mario would have taken the job but all the scuttle around the 'search' was that Mario was Blake's first choice but the buyout, coupled with Mario not wanting to move his family back east after 1 year and Herbert coming back/Oregon being favored to win the PAC 12 made it next to impossible for him to leave.

I agree, but it’s also wrong to assume everyone wants to return home to coach.

The buyout was a poison pill to keep Oregon from losing another coach after 1 year. After 2020 I think it drops from 10 mil to 2 million. If Diaz goes 6-7, 6-7 then maybe Miami makes a call.

LOL ... “you know someone.”

Why you going at him? He’s likely telling the truth too.

It makes perfect sense that Mario would want this job... he’s got U blood and knows what Miami can (and should) be. Richt made it all the more attractive.

It also makes perfect sense that Miami wasn't interested in dishing a huge buyout (multiple times more than Manny/Temple) for an unproven HC.

Please dont mention Wisconsin and Iowa in the conversation of having anything considered lesser along the oline. I will accept Duke as a reasonable comparison. My question would be how long has that oline coach been there? I'll guess longer than 8 months.

He had a huge buyout and not even worth it. Unfortunately for him he signed a huge buyout to show Uncle Phil loyalty. He has to hope he does a good job at Oregon and Manny continues his current path,

@MirabalCane told me that Luigi has already secretly agreed to join Marc Trestman's staff with the XFL's Tampa Bay Vipers. He'll finish out this year at Oregon but he gone after that. The dude simply can't find an edible croqueta preparada in that entire granola filled hippie state.

He refused to elaborate on Alex Mirabal's future but I'm hearing that both the Raiders and D. Wayne Lukas are interested. One for their o-line coach position and the other for a jockey spot in next year's Preakness.

Stay tuned.

Thoughts???
