Urban Myer isn't about chit without a good OC. He's about to have another heart attack after this season
Well, if you look at where we were last year, and where we are this year....that is all Grinch. I would hazard a guess we will make another leap forward next year as long as Grinch stays. Players love him, high energy guy who is focused on technique. Our DB's last year had no clue how to look for a ball and maintain coverage. I think within a year he will be a sought after coach.
So, you mean people would have to look beyond his current stats to see his impact and ability??
Interesting concept ...
Not sure if some of the "resident genius posters" on this board will be able to do that.
Not a lot of vision to project ... Mostly looking to hire guys from a rear view perspective ...
He's still green but shows a lot of promise. Yes, he did a masterful job of improving our d over last year but is he ready for the jump some of you are expressing? No, I really don't believe so. He needs a couple more years of experience and improvement.

Great and then he can move on to a lower tier program. He has no business being the DC at th University of Miami, whatsoever.
Did Tom Herman have any business being the OC for Urban Meyer?
Or a coach from a lower-level Div1AA program taking over a Pac12 program?
Urban Meyer is an offensive coach. Herman came in the same way that Dorsey would come in under Richt for example.
This guy with his 83rd ranked defense and zero experience would be running the show on his own. There are probably 30 more qualified DCs out there.
I don't advocate hiring Grinch over a few other guys I like a lot better. But Urb is no offensive genius. His offenses have succeeded when he's had top OCs like Mullen and Herman. They've struggled when he hasn't even with great talent.
I'm not even sure Urb ever coordinated an offense before getting the BGSU HC gig. Urb is a genius leader and button pusher. He's no offensive guru.

Awesome HC. No one HS questioned that. Not an offensive guru at all.Urban Myer isn't about chit without a good OC. He's about to have another heart attack after this season
I can't stand the guy, but he's fcking 153 and 27 & 9-2 in bowls in 15 yrs as a head coach with 3 ships. Maybe he ain't chit without a good OC, but he **** sure knows how to find one.

You mean the discussion you started about how Herman had no business being an OC at a big time program, just like Grinch has no business being a DC at a big time program... except for the fact that somebody recognized his talent? My bad.No one is disputing this point, which has little to do with the overall discussion.I can't stand the guy, but he's fcking 153 and 27 & 9-2 in bowls in 15 yrs as a head coach with 3 ships. No question their defense was improved, beyond what the stats suggest. Against Stanford they looked legitimately tough for most of the game. I think the Cardinal took them a bit lightly.
Still, I wouldn't get carried away. This is where the adjustments tend to fail. The Cougar fans naturally expect the improvement to continue, if not exponentially. But you're still dealing with a head coach who refuses to run the football...last in the nation in rushing attempts per game. That's going to soften your team in general. Plus the Pac 12 has a full offseason to not only take Washington State defense more seriously but to study the tendencies.
Let's face it, many things worked in their favor this year. The defense essentially blew the game against UCLA but did it so early it allowed Falk enough time to counter. The UCLA freshman quarterback waltzed roughly 45 yards for a touchdown but it left a minute remaining. The Rutgers game was similarly fortunate, with several key late penalties against Rutgers including touchdowns called back. Washington State played Oregon at exactly the right time. I wouldn't take those defensive stats seriously. The starting quarterback Vernon Adams was out and the backup was inept. It still required a desperate 10 point comeback in the final 4 minutes including a touchdown with 1 second remaining, before winning in double overtime.
