alex collins vs Duke johnson

When Alex Collins first committed to UM, I asked a buddy who is highly knowledgeable about HS football (he played and coached at STA and played D1 football in college and has followed HS football closely for years) what his thoughts were on Alex. His exact words were "he is the best high school RB I've ever seen." That is good enough for me.

wow no offense to your buddy but he must have just started watching HS to say something like that. Do to my age I can only go back 20 years but Frank is the best HS back I've ever seen hands down and it's not even close. Duke would be my #2, after that it's debatable but there are four other guys I take before Collins even comes up for conversation (and I like Collins). Imo Easterling, the Davis Bros (Troy and Darren) and Moss (yes he was a fat **** most of his time here but kid was a beast in HS).

That same dude was masterful at evaluating the talent on his own club, so I'm with you 100%.

The sarcasm may be flying over my head on this one, but Alex is the 2nd best RB I've seen in South Florida in the last 8 years.

Collins is the best RB prospect that I've seen in the country this year an either the best or 2nd best prospect in the state up there with Thomas. Absolutely imperative that Al close this deal. RB, unlike WR, is not a luxury this cycle.

Heard that boy AC is playing against JV comp and that he's not on Duke's level... Did his team atleast make the playoffs? So is he the real deal? Pete tell me something, b/c Im hearing that Cook is the best running back in Dade.

Guys,

- 73% of the team they played against had a .500 or below losing records

- 8 out of the 11 teams they played against had a .500 or below losing record.

- Collins played against one team all year (was he was not injured) that had an a winning record (Taravella - above .500 record). Against that one team, Collins averaged 15.3 yards per carry.

********** Summary **********

1. *DISCLAIMER: *I know VERY little about the technical details of football that would give my opinion any worth or value... I am truly just a fan and my opinion should be given LESS weight than even a grain of salt. *With that being said, these statistics are quite interesting.

2. *Collins has played only one game this season (when he wasn't injured and had meaningful carries) against teams with a winning record, nearly all of his stats are against teams who won 2 or 3 games for the entire season... Again, 2 or 3 games on the entire season. *To put that in perspective, Miami Central and Booker T. Washington combined, won nearly as many games as all of the teams that Collins actively played against (when he was not injured).

3. *As I said, Collins is my favorite 2013 recruit, but he surely did play against J.V. competition this year. *With that said, nearly every big time school in the nation would take him as this future feature running back and the boy's film is sick, utterly nasty. *So please, I would love to hear the input from my fellow posters who have a high football acumen. *Please educate me, because these stats are a bit concerning for a amateur like me. *Stats cannot measure a man's heart, natural skills and the passion to win.... Collins seem to have all three. *

Please educate me, my football ignorance has led me to be concerned. *Should I be?

Correct, Cook is the best RB in Dade.

But Collins is the best RB in Broward.

Don't care who is better. Collins comes in for 2013 and we desperately need RB depth.

Sony was putting up Collins #s in the 8-9th grade, leading Broward in rushing at 14.
Not always about numbers. Sony is incredible but so is Collins. If Sony was available this year I wouldn't sweat losing Collins as much. Frankie Franklin out up big numbers in HS too.

Sony > Collins. Boy put up 1800+ yards as an 8th grader, kids ELITE. Likely #1 RB prospect next year, I pray we land his services.

What up Uncle Chise? Happy holidays big homey.

Yo. Please check out my post a couple notches above this one and give me your feedback.

Thanks!

Cook cant help us next year. Collins can.

Underrated comment, something our fans have difficult time grasping.

That's pretty strong, but again, who has Alex Collins played against?

He is my favorite recruit for this year's class (and maybe even next year), but it does begged us to question, who has Alex Collins played against. Delvin Cook scored over 200 all purpose yards in the state championship last year— as a sophomore and on the biggest stage.

What has Alex Collins done against the best schools?

Can someone post this? I would like to see Alex Collins' stats against real schools... i.e. Miramar, Saint Thomas, etc?

Well they did play miramar LOL but stop knocking Collins for something he can't control, he doesn't make his schedule and the district he competes in but he has shown that he can dominate high school level competition with not that much help on his team. You don't know who will be the better running back yet but Cook can't help
us next year & hopefully we can pull Collins so he can prove his talent

Same to you, brother. I appreciate the statistical breakdown you put together. Regardless of those stats, from watching Collins play, he is an elite prospect. His competition wasn't great, but neither was his own supporting cast.

Sony is the best running back in Broward IMO...but then again he is a 2014 kid and we need Collins...& Scarlett IMO is a monster definitely right up there with the south Florida running backs. Th most important thing is to land these kids and let our offense become unstoppable

Good point, it might all be relative... Collins' teammate where noting to be desired.
