Alex Bauman Appreciation Thread

At the end of the day it's Dawson who decides who's hitting the field(unless Mario decides against it but as I been explaining he's not hands on like that)I blame no one but Dawson for all the wasted plays with this dude and forcing the ball to one of the most unathletic, uncoordinated tight ends in the country over and over. His hand eye coordination is on par with a blind man. But I can't blame anyone else for this kids ****** effort or lack thereof on that blocked punt which ultimately cost us a national championship. I wanted to break his ****** legs right there on the spot. Thank God we weren't still by the bench.

Why the he11 was he on the punt team???... fat @ss pu$$y...

Because lofton was hurt. That was normally lofton who would've been in that spot. That's the ****** part to all of this is bauman is considered a good blocker. He clearly just didn't know what he was supposed to do in that circumstance and instead of taking the chance of losing integrity he chose to dead arm ****.

But shouldn’t the instinct be too hit somebody/protect the punter ? I mean when it doubt , hit someone .

Or are the keys for that pp/shield line different ? And you’re suppose to stay put .. just still can’t fathom this play smh

Honestly as I've always said I keep my opinions on oline play to myself only because I don't know the mechanics of it usually etc. I know more than most. But I don't know situationally what's called for. In most instances proper fundamentals would be I'd imagine that you keep the integrity of that line. BUT FOR ME if you're facing a three man rush & the only guy around who poses a threat is about to walk right past you with a direct line to block the punt COMMON ****** SENSE is let me at least chip that guy to knock him off his path. To me that's just logic. I've tried not to think about this anymore cause I can't live like this. I saw him once since the game and I came real close to snapping on him. Luckily rumph saw me bout to lose my **** so we went on to something else

Outside of Elijah, who Mario inherit it from Manny TE room has been a travesty
I strongly disagree. We've got some good talent in the room. Development has definitely been **** and that's simply heightened by the fact our OC & our scheme don't really utilize the tight ends much outside of for blocking purposes. I thought this would be the year tight end play would really shine because of becks tendencies to check down. But as we saw that was passed on to Malachi and Marion instead of the blockers because we were playing with such tight formations. Plenty of blame to pass around but I don't at all think it's because of how we have recruited the position. Possibly some would say well look at Elijah with cam. But people need to be honest with themselves and realize just how much cam was in charge of those reads and those audibles. We achieved everything we did directly as a result of cam that year. Initially I myself gave Dawson plenty of credit for that offense so this is hypocritical for me to say. But even cam told me this year how often he would audible out of initial calls.

I’m just a fan but the staff should have given Luka a shot to see how he handle the game reps

Skinner, Williams and 87 have been a let down for TEU

im okay if dawson moved on ultimately. I think we could do far better at oc

The Williams situation was a big head scratcher.. Had a role on team and role would be expanding, to lose him and replace with the kid who got punt blocked in championship game is insane.

Yes and no. I was the right side upback on the punt team in jr high. A guy came clean up the middle and I jumped left to block him and the punter punted the ball right into my a$$. Granted the guy coming up the middle probably would have blocked it anyway..

I get where you're coming from. But skinner was a numbers thing that came about simply because we were trying to get quality on the roster. Clearly he wasn't a fit. But I get the idea. Bauman had a role he was coming here for and for reasons we've all discussed ad nauseam previously, more was asked out of him. Riley(I would've liked to see him get developed), luka & the kid coming in this year I really have high hopes for. BUT IT REQUIRES WE ACTUALLY INVOLVE THEM IN THE OFFENSE. Not just turn around and bring dudes here with the thought that we'll teach you how to block effectively. In today's game a tight end in the mold of what we used to put out would be an even bigger advantage than previously. Defenses aren't built for that anymore.

Sometimes you gotta take fandom out of the equation. Being honest with yourself, if you were him and his family and you saw the trajectory of that room from development, from game to game involvement & schematically would you not say maybe I should move on to somewhere I can be featured? Somewhere that values what I bring to the game as a whole? Look what Penn state and Iowa in particular do with tight ends. I certainly don't blame them. I think we're really missing out on something that would make us **** near unstoppable again. You can't account for that many weapons and we've had ones who can be game changers. This kid this year if he can put on weight (briggs I think is his name) and we don't use him as a weapon I'm gonna have an issue with Dawson or whoever the OC may be. I still have my hopes that Dawson goes elsewhere and we get a more established oc.

Briggs has legit about zero chance at being a contributor this year imo. Mueller could def earn reps quickly. Dude probably walked in as the best overall built TE in the room.

Also regarding Dawson, at some point on field results are what matters. If we have a top 10 or **** top 5 offense… like clearly he’s a good OC. If the offensive output is similar to this season then sure. But I really don’t see what you do in having all this confidence Mario will make a BETTER OC hire. Id say likelihood we get a better OC than Dawson maybe more like 5-10% odds at best? Odds it’s clearly worse are probably closer to 20-25%… odds of generally similar quality are probably about 65-75%….

ask yourself - if Cam never came here, does Dawson survive the season we had offensively with Beck?

i dont think he would have.

The season offensively where we had a top 20 offense and made the national championship and actually played the best offensively IN THE PLAYOFFS? Yes, without question tbh

Nowhere did I say briggs should put on weight like that and be some huge contributor this season. Moving forward down the line would love to see it. Agree on mueller. Far as dawson you're entitled to your opinion. At a certain point just the season before last I even shared it. Then when I noticed some flags I actually paid attention. I actually spoke with individuals involved in that process & when I continued to see the red flags and you all simply choose to use the same redundant nonsense of Mario is the problem with this without having any clue what you're speaking on (I'm saying you all not to be condescending but to point out it's not simply you I'm speaking towards)it became more of an issue with me. Maybe you(now I'm speaking directly to you) weren't aware when Dawson came here he was getting looks from smaller tier power 4 schools as potential head coach material. Do you find it coincidence that #1 he's still here after several seasons of such prolific offenses? #2 Not only has that not encouraged any legit schools to take a chance on him. BUT EVEN MORE SO ITS ACTUALLY DISSUADED THE MAJORITY OF THE SCHOOLS AT THE TIER THAT WERE LOOKING AT HIM PREVIOUSLY TO TAKE A CHANCE EITHER... Perhaps you're gonna say that's cause he loves us so much or maybe it's cause we value him so much we've talked him out of leaving. Yet not once has there been any raises for him or extension talk. Just so y'all know, were ALREADY having discussions with heatherman about an extension. Sooooo MAYBE the people who know what they're talking about and what they're seeing not only don't share the same level of confidence or value in Dawson as you do, but maybe theyre actually losing it...

You guys are acting like we were inept at offense. Dawson isn't some **** eater that can't call a game. Does he have flaws, yes. Does he get outcoached at times, yes. Does he limit what we're able to do on offense, yes. But he's not a liability either. He's just a whatever coordinator. The funniest part to all this **** is seeing all the people who talked **** about Mario and him limiting the offense with fizical play and bro ball, still don't comprehend what got us as far as we went with the team this year was Mario saying you Dawson it's time to play into that stereo type. We have a line that allows us to do what we want. Dawson was inept this year at times because he wasn't able to comprehend a grown *** man should never play with his food... That's why we lost the simple games.
