Alarming quote from Ferman in his Wedn. Update

2-2 is certainly possible.
I swear, we could be the absolute worst 3-0 team in history, but Manny will act like he invented swagger. He'll probably come out with a new trinket to celebrate this historic achievement.

I doubt they gave a rookie HC sole authority to hire and fire assistants. It would be criminally negligent.

Re-read what you just typed and take a moment to ponder the last twenty years of incompetence we’ve witnessed and ask yourself if that would really be a shocker

We should beat Wagner, I will concede.

Temple, UAB and Michigan State are toss up games. The Miami team that ended this year would have gone 0-3 against that group.

Well Stefan has gone incognito after the Rumph debacle, so he’s all we got.
That's not stefansson fault. Even mike said they agreed to part ways. Than later that same night manny called and said let's reevaluate that in a week or two. Two dbs are saying they were told Mike's leaving also but now it doesnt seem it. Just more clown show.

No contract would have been worded like what you suggest. Employees including assistants work for the AD, and compliance with law and process protections apply or the institution can have bigger issues. At most, it would contain language that made it clear the school won’t unreasonably interfere in these sorts of choices. New hires would have to be vetted, also. No contract is perfect on authorities of this sort.

Absolutely. If we trot out the same bunch of quitters it is a real possibility that we start 1-3.

We need a leader at QB in the worst way.

What a clown show this program, AD and institution appears to be.

I read contracts daily , and I fully understand and agree with what you’re saying.....but again we are dealing with the intersection of incompetence and apathy . Nothing can be assumed

My guess is the U’s corporate counsel is pretty good at ensuring contracts contain standard CYA liability language, as that is what they seem to care about, and pretty awful at advising on commercial terms.

No contract is going to say an employee has unfettered hiring/firing discretion.

Negotiations rarely work like this, though with longer contracts and more aggressive buyout penalties, they could get there, I suppose.

What’s the typical term for a new coach? 4 years? He doesn’t know what he’s stepping into, so he’s not going to agree to take all the risk if the first two years are tough. New guy, new system, injuries, talent, etc. who knows.

Maybe you make a big deal out of the third year early term right if he sucks, but my guess is you do not hire a coach you actually want by making that the contract term you care most about. Negotiations signal things. If that’s the big idea term to push, you’re probably hiring the wrong guy or agreeing to too much severance as a general matter.
Well therein lies the rub. At a school like Miami, if you’re hiring a guy with questionable experience as to head coaching, you’re hiring the wrong guy. It shouldn’t be a cut your Head Coaching teeth job for a guy being pursued by Temple or similar. So if they are going to do that they can’t just do it with no safety valves. The real answer is not to make these types of hires.

No school should hire down for flexibility, because it’s a job hire you can’t afford to get wrong.

We keep blaming Diaz and James but it goes back to being symptoms of a larger problem. Why doesn't Frenk step in and say he wants a football director? Why doesn't the BOT give James an ultimatum? It's one of 2 reasons (or might be both)
1. They don't care about football
2. Mayor Diaz Sr has powerful friends who are protecting his son.
