Alabama is opening its own ridiculous Sports & Nutrition Center on campus

I doubt kids give af about a waterslide, but this nutrition center will 100% help recruiting.

I just don’t think this is something that tips the scales even a little bit.

Yes, it gives them a wow factor on a visit, like the carrera marble in the men’s room, but as long as the other schools being considered have good nutrition programs in nice areas, being over the top will only have primary appeal to low IQ retards.

Alabama has had over the top facilities for decades. The thing that truly helps them in recruiting is their ability to take care of people, and not have to worry about the NCAA nor the media saying anything. That's the difference between Alabama, and a school like Miami. Even if Miami had the booster pool needed to play the bags game at that level, there's no way the media would allow it to happen, and the NCAA would be all too happy to make an example out of the small private school. Look at SMU for proof of this phenomenon. SMU was doing nothing that schools like Texas and Texas A&M was doing, the only difference was that they were located in a city in which they couldn't get away with their crimes.

"Facilities" have become shorthand for "Hey, we have so much money, we can blow it on stupid stuff, of course we'll take good care of you". Yes, you need to have some things, in order to build a winning program, but it's becoming about optics, about the unspoken agreement.

Get the nutrition supplements through the front door and your steroid injections on the way out the back

Where do we even go from here? Clemson has a f@#ing water slide. I swear in ten years Bama is going to have a space station for the football team.

It's a gross mis-allocation of state resources and also implicitly breaks NCAA rules because it provides a benefit to the football players that is not available to regular student.

A gregarious as Bama's facility seems it is not an NCAA violation. This is approved by the NCAA. Miami has chefs and nutritionists for its athletes. All part of the room-and-board provided by the scholarship grant-in-aid.

I think it will be one of those little things that get placed on the pro column for a school. Whereas the waterslide will not be placed in either column. Also, there are a lot of dumb/ill informed good football players who will see the fancy nutrition center and assume that means they will be receiving a higher level of nutrition. I don't think it will be enough of a pull to recruits to justify the spending though.

Just show us the room where they deliver the Testosterone shots spiked with Turinabol.

25,000 square feet, 5 Chefs, 4 dietitians and enough seating to somehow fit 50 + HDTV's and it is NOT open to the students. I'd be kind of ****ed if I was a student at Alabama. No way there are enough athletes to keep that place busy all day long. Seems like opulence for athletes & chick fil A for everyone else.

Uhh... sign me up

Is it still located in Tuscaloosa?

If so, who cares? We all know what really matters to 75% of the recruits who pick Bama

That's horse****, it's an excuse to not pay these kids. If you can afford to spend this on a glorified lunch room, then you can have a free market for talent. Guys should be able to own their own image, and make money from same.
I agree They definitely should be paid, have a trust fund set up after they graduate. This way they get their degree and a money as well.

Interesting take. Rare to see original thinking on here.

Big deal. This doesnt look any better than the Hurricane Food Court!

Canes should add a 25,000 sq foot nightclub. Bottle service and 50 VIP booths, each booth with a pair of poles for the dancing ladies. Special section for coaches.

Beat that Bama!

You think Bama doesn’t have hot chicks? Maybe not clubs like down here, but there is no shortage of talent up there. What was wondering is where are they hiding the IV rooms where they shoot that hot muscle juice Bama uses on their players.
