Alabama ain’t got no money?

Not that he's our family but I was shocked to see Nevin Shapiro at the game in box seats with his squad

You’d think he would have been trespassed from UM events, also how the **** is no one head hunting this man? He scammed millions out of high profile folks someone’s gotta be looking for him and he ain’t hiding 🤣

That's crazy. You would think he would get the same treatment that a known card counter would get at a casino if he showed his face at a UM event.

And you don't steal that much money without somebody coming for your head later on. I wouldn't be shocked if somebody catches him eventually

This made me legit lol.

I don’t believe that **** lol. Only thing different now is their culture isn’t the same with saban gone

This is in poor taste. Bama has plenty of $$ & I know this unequivocally from two clients grandchildren attending there.

The problem is Bama is not monopolizing & hoarding all the talent, & now they r trying to excuse why they’ve been struggling. Well, here’s a news flash:

From 2019 (advent of the transfer portal) - present Bama’s classes have been:

1. #1 (2019)
2. #2 (2020)
3. #1 (2021)
Post NIL ERA:
4. #2 (2022)
5. #1 (2023)
6. #2 (2024)
7. #4 (2025)

What the fck is AJ McCarron talking about? In the past two seasons they’ve lost to:
Vanderbilt (unranked)
Oklahoma (unranked)
Michigan (unranked)
FSU (unranked)

& none have recruited remotely on the level of Bama. They r not losing to UGA, Oregon, O$U, Miami (since we in everyone’s mouth like a prime Jack Napier), etc. they r losing to teams that went 7-6, 6-7, 8-5, & 2-10 last season.

When I saw Bama play against FSU, I saw half hearted effort on defense that included poor angles & missed tackles. Also one thing about DeBoers offense, u have to be accurate; unfortunately for him, the two QBs he inherited (Milroe, Coker) have displayed accuracy issues even during Saban’s tenure, so that part his scheme is moot.

It’s OK if Bama is having a down turn (although I do think they will turn it around), but shame on AJ & their toothless fan base trying to blame NIL when they were funneling $$ via bags & cars for yrs! AND THEY STILL HAVE A PLETHORA OF TALENT COMPARED TO THE REST OF CFB!

Was going to point out the same thing. Whatever the situation with their NIL Bama is landing classes that are at the very top of the sport.

Recruiting is the least of their issues

Bama's big problem is DeBoer can't evaluate like Saban can. Saban had killers with speed who all loved the game, loved to work. The current Bama kids look slow, unmotivated, and need emotional support dolls + finger nail polish to stop themselves from crying. How many of Bama's current commits are of the latter variety vs Saban type kids ? I think we know the answer 🤔

Would love to know how a team with half the budget of Miami can afford to pay Horton nearly double what Miami was going to pay him.

Did they value him that high vs the team that knew everything about him and had the best passing offense in America the prior year and 0 WRs good enough to be drafted, yet still played over him for the most part?

No. They had the same or more funds to spend. Pretty simple.

It's not that they do not have money...it's that they do not have Mich, OSU, Texas, Oregon money. This is well known.

The recruiting will suffer as soon as the Bama mystic starts to lose its shine. It will take a few years. Kids grew up with Bama being the pinnacle of college football. It will take a few years just like it took Miami a few years.

Best case for all of us is they continue to drop a few games each year that they shouldn't and the perception and public opinion changes. If all the Florida schools keep kids home and everyone takes their transfers...happy days ahead.

I actually don’t think NIL was the major factor for Nick and Bamas demise. I think it’s the portal and the fsct they can’t hold kids hostage on their bench and hoard top guys anymore. $20 mil is their IRS #, but those handshakes, car leases, no show jobs, and calls to the DA aren’t exactly on the books. I think once kids had the ability to not have to sit a season to transfer it was over

I bolded those statements because that is how I remember Miami's downfall. I agree with the 2nd bold statements simply because the portal exists. Will they turn it around enough to win another title? Only the clock and calendar have that answer.

Portal is definitely a factor, but I'd say it's probably a combination of multiple things:
  • Like you said, they aren't able to hold guys hostage, so transfer portal allows for more PT elsewhere.
  • They're not the only ones able to pay top highschool talent anymore.
  • They're also not the biggest purse anymore (the whole point of this thread). A car and $250k no longer moves the needle.
  • Expanded playoff (with talks of doing more) means more teams have a chance to get in, so you don't have to flock to a handful of teams to get a playoff opportunity.
  • Wider media coverage means you'll still get noticed by scouts; you don't have to play for blueblood programs anymore to get noticed. (Vikings just put an undrafted dude from Morgan State on their 53-man roster).
They'll continue to have top classes, but not having those extra 3-4 bluechips a year adds up over a 4-year period. Not as much depth>less competition>player complacency (which we're reading smoke on in Bama)>worse results. Add in a coaching staff that doesn't hold guys as accountable as Saban did...we saw this story under Coker.

Bama's problems seem to be with the culture - they were half-assing it against FSU, as well as just committing dumb penalties. They've also lost recently to Vandy, a mid Oklahoma, Michigan without any QBs, and a team that finished the previous season 2-10.

Saban was a hardass who got the elite kids he recruited to work their asses off, whereas DeBoer seems to be running a country club in Tuscaloosa.

Translation; A.J. McCarron is in good with Kalen DeBoer and is trying to deflect the heat
Absolutely. DeBoer has single-handedly destroyed the culture Saban cultivated over his tenure.

You can have all the talent in the world on your roster, but if that talent isn't held accountable or nurtured within a culture of excellence, then it won't matter. As Miami fans, we know this, when looking at the Coker experience once Butch and his guys left.

they aren't broke.. they went from Michael Jordan layups in recruiting ease because of Saban, winning and fewer schools that could pay under the table, to now they got Angel Reese layup difficulties with No saban, losing, and 15+ schools putting up big money as well.....
