In a world where student athletes are getting fair market value for the first time ever, Alabama is forced to make decisions they never had to make before. You are starting to see that Alabama isn't able to stack talent the same way they used to. If a guy can play and is stuck behind someone, the portal now exists. The NCAA isn't there to serve as their watchdog, limiting competition.

Deboer made a mistake taking that job, but it's a situation where you can't blame him for making that mistake.

They’ve had the 2nd, 1st, 2nd & 3rd recruiting classes the past four years. Could be paying them min wage, but the fact is theyre in the top 2 of composite talent & it’s not being optimized.

How much of that is "The kid chose Alabama, so he must be good". How many of those kids had their ratings inflated? That said, Deboer is a terrible cultural fit and I don't think he's going to make it.
