Al Golden's coaching tree has yielded an NFL DC

Delete or merge if already posted. Shaun Desai has been hired as DC of the Philadelphia Eagles. He spent several years at Temple with Golden before accepting the football operations job at Miami in 2011. Moved on and moved up. Is it possible the coaches are only lousy when employed at Miami. Banda now in pros and D'Onofrio at Stanford. Who woulda thunk it.

Its Sean and this second stint as being an NFL DC. He was the Bears DC two years ago in Matt Nagy/Mitch Trubrisk final year.

If you watched his Bears Defense, it is obvious he did retain much or any knowledge he learned from Golden/D’Onforio.

i mean what more do we need to see to realize that recruiting/player evals has been the issue, especially in the trenches

I’ve been saying it for a while, a lot of the coaches we hated while they were here have actually gone on to be successful elsewhere.

Maybe it’s really Miami, and not the coaches.

Even the beleaguered Dan Enos was pretty good last year.
Maryland was 67th in scoring and 55th in total offense. You consider that pretty good?

Al Golden:

James Coley - From OC to WR coach…downgrade

Art Kehoe - retired…upgrade

Larry Scott - TE coach to HC at 8-16 Howard…downgrade

Kevin Beard - WR at Miami to WRC at Toledo…downgrade

Tim Harris SENIOR - RB coach back to HS…downgrade

No’D - From DC to ILB coach at Stanford…downgrade

Paul Williams - CB coach to CB to a 3-8 Stanford team that hired Coach No’D…downgrade

Randy Melvin - DL at Miami to coaching in HS to CFL DL coach….downgrade

Hurlie Brown - LB coach to HS HC…downgrade

The only 2 coaches who actually got better jobs after leaving Miami were Carrol,

In 5 years Al Golden had only 2 assistants who were poached for better jobs.

This is spot on except you left out Jedd, who is now the HC at Arizona. But your overall point is correct.

Now say it louder for the morons in the back to hear you.

Also, you’re responding to one of the worst trolls on the site to be fair.

Al was overly loyal to trash like D’Onofrio, and that cost him. Sadly enough, dude has a decent tree. He hit on some hires, especially with Fisch at OC. The issue was that he lacked the ability to make the move that would have saved his job. Had he fired Fatso and hired a legit DC, I think Al would have been a decent HC. Would you win titles with him? No, but Miami would have been a solid 8-10 win program with the way he recruited and identified talent. He had some **** good evals and he hired a ton of local guys that beat the bushes.

Compared to Coker, Shannon and Diaz, Al was at least a rational hire, he just wasn’t ruthless enough to do what needed to be done.

Lot of young coaches getting shots on that list. Some weren’t ready for prime time and had to develop. Some coaches chose to step back into places where they were most comfortable(Harris and Brown) You also have to remember the time Golden was working in. The NCAA really wanted to wipe the program off the face of the earth, that affects hiring. No one is saying Al was the second coming of Vince Lombardi, what we ARE saying is that he wasn’t the unmitigated disaster Diaz and Shannon were(Coker was a short term solution that became a long term problem). You really think that an aging Richt won 19 games his first two years with a bare cupboard?

Jedd Fisch has had success elsewhere.
