Al Golden quote

killa, I get what u saying but that is still 10 s. fla recruits that would be very helpful. over the past 10 years we could easily avg this # to 20-25 maybe even 30 recruits who sign out of state. I understand that we cant get everyone but a stronger showing on the file could give us a better chance with elite guys that have gotten away these past few years. in turn fielding a stronger team.

another factor that has contributed to this # is the two prev. coaching staff, cannot quantify the neg impact each has had on the above referenced #"s

Players will always leave south Florida, there's no way to put a "fence" around the region. Credit to the staff for the job we've done getting the players in South Florida now. They've done a great job. I just disagree with your narrative that schools don't really come down here for talent as much as we make it seem. When you add up UF, FSU, Bama, Clemson, Louisville, etc. you see a lot of South Florida kids. The numbers do support it. LSU isnt going to have 10 south florida kids on their roster but having 4 kids shows theyve made an effort to recruit our region. (They have 4 not 1). It's not just one school coming in and battling us consistently for talent, it's a handful of schools. We can't lock down south Florida but we have to do a good job (2012 & 2014 for example) of keeping the bulk of elite talent home. In this cycle cook, Sony, & khairi are currently committed elsewhere. At the same time, we have valentine, Thomas, bethel, Kc, etc. committed to Miami. We will never completely lock up the area but as long as we get the bulk of the talent that's all that matters to me.

agree with this. cumulatively, there's a lot of talent that could be at miami right now. but like you said miami can't get them all and never will, same applies to the other florida schools. two consecutive years uf has lost 5-star olineman from right up the street from their campus in tunsil and theus smh, it happens.

i think the biggest think is evaluating those 2nd tier kids, often 3 years down the road they are the ones playing in the nfl after going to a virginia tech, unc, louisville caliber school after the big 3 passes on them.

The biggest thing that as messed us up down here is the NCAA period, end of. We can win all we want but if kids know they are not going bowling etc that is a huge problem. And remember rivals coaches could say anything they want. They were using death penalty alot in the first year and a half. We couldnt do anything about, even ESPN was making topics about it. I know people say we should get the best players, but being the best high school player down here doesnt mean you will be the best college player. Golden and the staff seems to have a good grasp on developing players, when you look at the players who have actually gotten noticeably better. If they do that, we wont have any problem winning, and recruiting players we want. Winning is very important but Randy also brought in alot of great high school players....few turned into great college players, particularly from the 08/09 classes. If our DL steps up this year and start stuffing the run, then you will know for a fact they are getting guys better. Because it was nothing short of atrocious last year

BTW Golden said we wont forget those schools dumping on us. What are the chances we tack on a late FG on UF if we are clearly winning. I would love for him to do that. Then let the crying begin

Here's an illustration, this is just 4-5 star kids.

Disclaimers:
-Miami will never land all S FL studs
-I love Al and I think he's a good recruiter

in terms of elite schools recruiting south florida, that is often overstated by fans here. the narrative is that sec schools, fsu, etc. are raiding south florida but you look over most of the rosters and lsu for example has literally a handful. same for other schools like bama and uga. even uf doesn't have that many and the ones they do are primarily from around the palm beach area. i think fans tend to remember the ones that get away more because they are usually high profile. but in terms of pure numbers the major schools aren't raiding south florida, miami still gets most of the talent from the city of miami and some of the surrounding areas.

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/f...ankings/_/state/florida/class/2013/view/state

He did say "south florida"

but OUCH regardless. OUCH.

Yeah I couldn't specify the region on ESPN but if you tally up the south Florida kids from top to bottom it was not a good year for us in our backyard.

I honestly think last year was an aberration. Yeah we will always see those schools get a kid or two because some guys just want to get away, but I don't think you will have the top to bottom like that very often. Some elite guys are looking for greener pastures but we should always always always make our name by adding **** good quality depth and some superstars here and there from our own backyard. We should know our areas players better than any other team, which is why I am willing to wait a few years before I freak out about who we "missed".

quick roster search:

bama- 7 fl players, 3 from south florida
lsu- 2 fl players, 1 from south florida
uga- 12 fl players, 3 from south florida (only 3 of them even had offers from any of the big 3)
clemson- 7 fl players, 2 from south florida
usc- 3 fl players, 2 from south florida

those are just some of the major players listed as commonly raiding south florida but the numbers don't support it. now obviously uf and fsu have inroads in south florida. but the majority of uf's south florida players are from tampa and the palm beach area, not areas miami is traditionally successful, especially tampa. we haven't gotten someone from the city of miami in years really. fsu has had much more success there.[/QUOTE]

BAMA- 3 from s.fla...BUT....The best wr on championship team as a freshman who is from a um pipeline school.
LSU- Has two player from s.fla who we wanted and recruited in Avery Johnson and Rashad Robinson
UGA- They never really recruit s.fla..not sure why on the list...this is the first yr they have stepped it up with the Sony Michel pull who was our top rb on our board though.
Clemson- another one that doesnt "raid" s.fla...but they snatched up the best wr in the conference Sammy Watkins who has 1st rd ability. Also stole a commitment from us in Jayron Kearse an elite talent.

Not all about NUMBERS...more so about quality of guys and where they were listed on our board.

This map is from here that is a Stanford study of where the top recruits are located along with the best football schools. It is not a simplistic mapping, but a mathematical algorithm that is one estimation to the best areas to recruit in. The conclusion of this study, which was done in 2009-2010 with data that is a few years old? "The maps tell you the best places to recruit. If you're a coach and looking for your next job you might want to pick a school with a high "effective recruiting population" that has been underperforming." Sounds like Al Golden used that strategy in accepting the job at Miami.

The Don needs to quit talking in interviews and just win during interviews. Stop answering questions and promoting the Hurricanes brand, and just start winning more games during the interviews. Might be a good idea if he quits doing interviews altogether and goes into a shell like his reclusive predecessor Shanntard.

Excellent points. All this promoting the brand is taking time away from game planning and winning games. Win some effing games and the rest will take care of itself.

Great idea. I hope Golden disappears until gameday so we can hear the endless *****ing about him not aggressively promoting the brand and of him trying to avoid "hard questions" from the media.

The "just win" dopes have it all figured out. Promoting the program does not benefit recruiting at all. Corches just do these interviews all the time because they love the media and want to have chats with idiots instead of spending that time corching or with their families.

I went to school with Theus. UGA had a huge edge because they took his brother the year before.

Why didn't we hire a coach with a winning record during interviews?

He talks too much during media day. He needs to win more games during media day.
