Al Called D from the sidelines

Only confirmation could have been fact the Dono was upstairs in the booth for the first time in my memory....
 
Watch footage when Golden was the Dcoordinator. Its the same defense we've been running. If Golden wanted an aggressive defense, dorito would have run an aggressive defense during their time here.

People are acting like Golden wanted to run a different and more aggressive defense and Dorito just wasn't doing it. 4+ years, Dorito has been running what Golden wanted. If the scheme or philosophy has changed its because both of their asses are on the line and they realized their passive defense hasn't been working. It also doesn't hurt to be playing one of the worst offenses in CFB. We will see how good this new defense is against UNC and FSU.
 
it looked more like a base 50 (5-2) than a 3-4, with onw of the safeties cheatingup, I still dont trust Grohlden to stay with it, I believe his level of aggression is based on the opponent, the better the opponent the more conservative he gets, he knew VT was garbage and pounced

We played more aggressive because they had zero respect for Vt qb and pass game. Just like Duke.

Sadly I expect the same ole same ole when we play a decent O/ Qb.

You mean the Virginia defense that's ranked below Miami's in both total and scoring defense? Get a clue and quit talking out of both sides of your mouth.

According to Dorito and Golden, scoring and total defense are both widely discredited and antiquated metrics for measuring defensive performance. They're tied with Miami in yards per play though. Therefore they are a top 15 defense and actually better than Miami's.

oh please. UCLA and BYU would have hung a 50 spot on us. Virginia played both of them when their QBs were healthy.
 
Well I don't know, these are the type of anaemic offenses that shredded us time and time again while they sit back and allowed them to dink and dunk us to death. Good place to find out is UNC next week

They were running a 34 all game. If it was a 50 base the ends would've brought pressure 90% of the time and the safety would've played at shallow depth the majority of the time. I'm not sure why they mix so many fronts, just be good not cute.

As for Golden calling the plays I doubt it. I agree with the crowd that says if he wanted more aggression it would've been there all along. Either way, VT is effing horrible on offense so they're hardly a barometer. Nice effort but quoting Winston Wolf, let's not start sucking each other's dix quite yet gentleman.

Reminds of 2013 UF. Prostyle teams with terrible OLs and innacurate QBs are handled well by this defense. The weak OL allows our 2-gap DL to control the LOS, and the deep 3 shell forces the QB into accurate quick passes.

I'm happy about the win bc the players deserve it, but I didn't say anything different about our D in terms of what they were doing.

Why is this a good thing. If Al starts calling plays and we see a little bit improvement this defense will stick around another year for certian
