I don't know anyone here that doesn't want a bunch of 5 stars. We'd all love to get as many 5 stars as possible. But we never have done that and we're not likely to start now. (though we have two committed as of now).

What argument? I'm not the person who decided to take a thread praising a stud Hurricane and use it as a soapbox to excuse recruiting misses on blue chips in a way that was either disingenuous or illogical. That was you.

If I was making an argument, it would be: "Slurpers porsting about 3* players going R1 after recruiting losses, ignoring the historical statistics, are an unfortunate hallmark of CIS."
 
hats off to the staff too. All of these guys on the DL in 2025 that are going to be top draft picks…they were all on the defense that cost us the playoff in 2024. Scheme, fit, technique and deployment all matter a great deal. Kudos to Mario for making a change and even more to defensive staff for getting them in position to be dominant.

mesidor is unique cuz of his age
he was a 25 year old man playing so he shined his last year when he had his man body fully developed
same reason indiana was able to win with such a **** poor blue chip ratio bc they had grown men up and down that roster and not boys

but besides moten RJ may be the only other DT we had that really outplayed their ranking
besides him or willis i cant think of another DT worth anything in the last 10 years
and willis was close to a 5 star

most people dont understand that concept
ive had mult arguments over it, its crazy to live life expecting outliers to be the norm

its like if there was a cancer that had a 10 percent cure rate, these same people on here would look at the 10 % that survives and think they are them, they dont realise no thats not the case and they are most likely the 90%

if we consider their play to be good or where we want to be at then sure, but we need to stack talent so players like them are simply depth pieces

You asked for guys who outplayed their ranking. I listed two.

If you want a list of high ranked guys who underperformed, the list is way longer.

If you want a list of high 4 stars and 5 stars who played to the ranking, start the search after 2024.

I think Willis was a five star, I wasn’t so high on him even when he was here. Maybe I slept on him but even in the league he was just an ordinary DT imo. RJ idk wtf happened in the league but here his game reminds me of Moten. They get to the backfield so quick, but Moten is 10 times the baller and that’s saying something. I remember Oklahoma was the only one really pushing for Moten and Mario got here and put the full court press on him.
 
This talk of Moten being DT 1 in the draft makes no sense to me. I'm sure he did his diligence getting a potential draft grade. I'm also assuming it was not a first round grade or he would be crazy not to leave. How is it the kid got such bad information during the process? I'm not being a smart ***. Can anyone educate me on this?

They are talking 2027 draft, random guy on twitter doesnt mean anything, lol.. Most scouts didnt even have profile until maybe very late in season.. He did the right thing to get full value for next season, especially he can get NIL now.. Otherwise he woulda left for mid round money

A 3star DT becoming a 1st/2nd round pick isn’t exactly an “outlier”. Early DT draft selection is almost all about Size++power+athleticism. That’s what makes it an outlier vs not. Not star ranking purely. Star rankings aren’t perfect, and guys grow, athleticism isn’t tested perfectly. 5star dts are guys already built and athletic. Thats why they’d have a very high hit rate and are expensive…

Obviously I’d want a 5star DT yearly or every other year. Very hard to get done. But just saying all 3stars are outliers is a bit ridiculous.
