And they’re already getting poached. Cignetti’s S&C guy already bounced to the SEC. See some of their guys portaling out. Rumor is Cooper is going pro. All of a sudden they’re down to 1 returning DB, a LB, and a DT. Offensively believe everyone except their OT, TE and the back shoulder receiver are gone. That’s a tough haul to hit 100% on the portal (see FSU). And can’t think they have guys coming up because they only played 2-3 subs all season on both sides of the ball. Do I expect a FSU collapse…..of course not. And with their schedule they have 5-6 guaranteed wins. I’d expect a 9-3 type year.
That's what I expect too. Before, they were the hunter; now, they're the hunted. Let's see how easy it is when everyone you play has you circ;ed 6 times in black permanent marker on their calendar.

On the other hand, if we get Mensah, I DO expect us to be in serious natty contention again.

The stars aligned perfectly for them. Reminds me of the FSU team that Norvell assembled except that Cignetti is a superior coach and they were fortunate to keep Mendoza healthy all year. IU will be a top tier program but would be shocked if they went on a Bama style run in this college football landscape.
The FSU 13-0 Novell team was EXACTLY what I was thinking. They had a generational QB (for college, not pros), they had a core of players and coaches who were the leadership and everything fell into place. Again, I want to be clear - I don't take anything away from them. They're not an all time great team, but they deserved the natty.

But, if Beck checks down to Mali and then makes 1-2 successful throws after that, we win the natty playing our C- game.

I do think Cignetti is way better than Norvell, BUT, do I think Cig is a newly discovered deity? NO. Let's see if he can sustain 11 wins a season. Lots of teams want revenge in the B10.

Cignetti is a highly talented coach in a top heavy and overhyped conference. He'll keep winning 9+ a year because there are a lot of mediocre teams in the BiG.

But I do think he's capped, and I doubt he ever sees a run like this year's. Taint, Michigan and Oregon will spend millions to analyze all his team's tendencies and continue to out-recruit Indiana. Even being smarter and better at development and execution, they'll beat him more often than not and keep him in the 1-3 loss range.

Also, his team will fall back to the mean in terms of probabilities. He's not going to have 4th-down penalties, blocked punts and missed field goals go his way every game. Beck wins that final drive 50% of the time, too.

Im just trying to understand what is the end game for Duke. If he does not want to play there and it’s clear he is not returning, then what?

It's Notre Dame refusing to play in a bowl game or Wisconsin in the Lucas situation. There is no end-game. They are just venting.

"Maybe" Miami settles for a little more on the NIL buyout to make them go away, and "maybe" other programs will be less likely to go after their players to avoid the hassle. Doubt it but they might rationalize it that way. At the end of the day, it's posturing and throwing a temper tantrum.

perfectly stated and couldn't agree more. And, that's assuming Cig has zero NFL aspirations. He's got a HUGE ego and unlike Mario, I could see him having a go at the NFL before he hangs up his cleats.

And, once Cig leaves, all of these nouveau riche IU fans will slip back into silence and anonymity. But, they'll always have this season to cling to.

This. Let's say Duke gets everything they want and they force Mensah to play for them next year. How thrilled is he gonna be? Is he gonna lay it all on the line day in and day out for a team that held him hostage? This isn't some cautionary tale for players in the portal. If anything it's a cautionary tale for schools and NIL collectives - ultimately you are at the mercy of those you "employ", exactly like every other business, so structure your deals accordingly.

Like the UM law professor stated on the podcast, it's for deterrence. Duke had Riley Leonard poached and now Mensah. They're making it very clear for the next QB that signs an NIL deal with them...if you try to leave us, we will make you run through a minefield so think twice. Mensah will be at Miami.
Doubtful. What they’ve done is to make sure that no prospect worth a **** ever signs that agreement again.

He's coming here, but in an alternate universe where he is forced to come back, I would sand bag it, get benched, and as soon as contractually possible, declare for the draft.

Or... play his tail off and then, just as Duke is about to clinch the game that will send them to the ACCCHGM and the playoffs, take the snap, look at Manny, smile and lob the ball up for an INT. Then, take his helmet off, look at the camera smiling and say, "Tulane says howdy!" Then, declare for the draft and leave campus that night.

Exactly lol. It's going to backfire on them because guys like Mensah have choice. It's the colleges' own **** fault. They don't want to give their athletes the same rights as employees so they cannot have collective bargaining. They ***** over the less talented athletes, and the more talented ones ***** them over.

What's funny is that they tampered with Maalik Murphy, and then tampered with Mensah and sent Murphy into the portal

So you would sand bag it? How is that going to play come draft time ? What is your answer going to be in an interview? Yeah I tanked it. I didnt like what they did to. So, if you dont go to the right team, will you do the same ? You going to let your teammates down? You willing to crash your season out of spite?

Good luck

Really just kidding, but the second one would be amazing.

He’s mid 60s so if he’s gonna go NFL it’s gonna be quick

Down here in Miami close to the U , @JD08 you can’t find a popular or main street that doesn’t have 2-3 Publix on it for a 1 mile stretch.
I'm from Jupiter. There are 7 different Publixes that I have the store layout memorized. Not to mention Stuart and Palm Beach Gardens.
