Can someone ELI5 for me?

No school can deny a player from transferring. If they want to retain his NIL rights, they will just be paying him to play for someone else? That someone else would just not be able to pay them in NIL?

Duke tried to pull a Wisconsin on Mensah by throwing big contract bullcrap around to scare him into leaving for the two-year duration of the contract. Because he ain’t scurred and is leaving anyway, Duke’s attorneys ran to court and got a TRO to try to stop it. The TRO was granted as to him enrolling in another school, but not as to him entering the portal. Also, judge is being replaced because he’s a Duke booster. Hearing on Feb 2 with new judge.

We attorneys all agree this is just delaying the inevitable outcome, which is that Duke / NC State Courts cannot prevent Mensah from getting an education. UM will pay the damages ($4M) and Mensah will come here, and hopefully in time for spring ball.

Is he currently enrolled in Duke? If so, what if he drops all classes before final drop date?
Then he will not be an eligible "student athlete" at Duke. Will NIL obligations apply if he is not a Duke student?

D and Pete said when this first started that he never went back to Durham. That he was training in Tampa, so I assume he is not enrolled in classes at Duke.

How is the Duke Booster judge able to make any type of ruling… even if temporary before the new judge hears the case on 2/2?

Seems like he should have immediately disclosed his conflict of interest and recused himself before handing down even a temporary ruling.
