ADIDAS VS NIKE

Does Kirk have a Nike apparel deal? What a weird thing to focus on. For all he did for UM with the vocal change he seems to really not like Mario the last two seasons. Not sure if there was some beef there but his tone has changed a ton with UM.
For a guy that's typically such a pro's pro, he really went way off the reservation to make those comments about our uni's. Idk if @Rellyrell has been in his ear or what but it gave me Miami/Nike agenda vibes, which I'm not mad at if it steers us in that direction.

As far as general hate from him towards Miami I wouldn't say I've picked up on anything that's felt out of pocket. He's typically pretty fair when assessing us. He was even throwing up the U at Noles in Tally last week -- so as far as national media types he's good with me.

Alright who put Herbie up to this? My guy goes scorched earth on Adidas, then zeroes in our Adidas uni's.

"Miami's uniforms are a disgrace they need to go back to Nike!"

I thought it was a bit at first but he definitely meant that, even the guys afterwards were baffled.
Between calling out our admin in 2021 and now this I'm convinced Herbstreit posts on here.

So I’ll chime in, b/c u guys don’t pay attention to details as closely as I do.

Even though Adidas’ new slogan on X after they were blasted in 2022 is “it’s all in the details” (literally copying Nike’s story template behind each thread & fabric), it couldn’t be further from the truth.

First the positive: Adidas has come a loooooong ways in both design & material used. The material they r currently using for their premiere programs aka chasis is actually Nike’s old template from the early - mid 2000’s. It’s not one of one, of course, but it’s the same concept (Revolution).

With that said, here’s why Adidas is still light yrs behind:
1. The fit: Adidas doesn’t provide customizable fits: it’s small, medium, large, extra-large, etc. Everyone’s body type is different. Here’s where Nike excels: They provide majority of their P4 programs w fit tech where they do both body scans & foot scans to make sure each jersey/cleat is fitted according to each player.

2. Aesthetics: I pointed this out when Adidas’ newest chasis came out. In fact, & I hate to do this, but I remember @brock being geeked when Adidas provided us w their “premium” jersey materials in 2016 & 2018. The results? The introduction of us being known as “The V” with their strawberry & stretchable corduroy materials distorting numbers & logos. Now w this faux Revolution template, the seams bleeds, thus distorting the numbers (see our #10 jerseys as examples). B/c of this oversight, u see the imperfections.

3. Font: Adidas has yet to get the font right on any of their schools. Many of their G5 programs have two different name plate fonts, while the P4 programs have HS level NOB plates. The results are NOBs (Name on The Back) look very elementary-ish and uneven.

4. Cleats: B/c Adidas specializes in Futbol Boots, these designs often bleed over to their American Football cleats. Take a gander at Texas A&M retro cleats for their 1975 faux throwback, & even TAMU fans have said the cleats throw off the unis.

5. Cool Factor: Adidas has a tendency to over play its 3 stripes. While some of it is natural, the 3 stripes become more representative than the unis themselves, & that’s by design. One of the gripes I’ve seen from Liverpool fans, for instance, is they felt their kits became a walking billboard for Adidas vs. Liverpool (although I like their kits; actually I like most of Adidas futbol kits). One of the things that stood out to me during some of the team gathering events we’ve had is how many of our players don’t rock Adidas outside of campus.

So Herbie is just saying what’s real: Adidas is much better today than it was just 3 yrs ago, but there’s little things that r glossed over & it’s either they don’t have the tech for it or it’s just not paid attention to.

I vehemently deny these allegations….lol…although I may know a friend or two or five at ESPN. Lol

So I might have missed this, but we didn’t reup with Adidas yet, right? We going to do a RFP of some type to see what others bring?

Did yall see how becks #11 looked in the cinematic recap in one of the clips 🤣 I laughed out loud. As @Rellyrell stated they’ve come a long way: it used to be every play back in the day pads were popping out, Trench players pants were falling off, The W/V at the collar, and the numbers that just look flat out ridiculous over the course of a game

they are Amateur hour in every way

Interesting insight, thanks for taking the time to provide some details that the casual apparel fan like myself wouldn't notice.

It seems like Adidas is way more focused on securing partnerships than providing high quality service/merch, at least across the board.
How do you think Nike responds to Adidas recent efforts in CFB? Adidas luring over some power programs, key player signings (i.e. Jeremiah Smith), and stepping up their marketing presence in So Fla HS football (likely other regions as well)?

Do you think Nike is in wait and see mode as far as Adidas actually maintaining these efforts vs it being just a marketing phase, or do you think Nike gets more aggressive?

Yeah I saw that too.

Also for whatever reason Adidas changed the 1’s and they have a really long bottom part that looks absolutely ridiculous.

That’s definitely an eyebrow raise from Herbie… someone definitely fed him that line to bring it up.

Whatever it takes to get us away from adidas

I don’t own anything Adidas, not a fan of their product. That said if you have a problem with the current uniforms that’s a you problem as the kids say. There’s nothing wrong with the current, and it’s super *** for a guy like herbstriet to even brighten it up.

Great point; so there’s several things I want to highlight:

1. When a school leaves Nike it’s big news b/c it’s Nike. Adidas has partnered w the following schools since 2015:
-Miami
-Washington
-UTenn
-PSU

Meanwhile Nike/JB has sponsored during this same time:
-Auburn
-Rutgers
-USCe
-UCLA
-Cal
-Cincy
-Hawai’i
-UTSA
-Rice

Yet, that doesn’t make news. Lol.

2. One of this misnomers w Adidas is the thought of them being in the partnership business. Adidas will overspend to promote their brand, hence they plaster 3 stripes everywhere. KU is their best option to win the CBB, so that’s their crown jewel & r paid as such. They’ve been desperately searching for a CFB crown jewel,, hence they originally overspent for UTenn, b4 mega overspending for PSU.

Here’s the thing: The moment Adidas feel as if u’re no longer of value, or fulfilling their brand recognition, w/e is promised will be given to the next. This has nothing to do w Miami as opposed to their documented history. You can ask Trae Young, Dwight Howard, & if Kobe was still alive, him, too. U can also ask ManU of UEFA.

3. One of the terms they love floating around is “flagship.” It doesn’t really mean anything, in all honesty, but how it’s presented is meant to make u feel special, prioritized. However, in this expression is akin to Oprah’s giveaways:“U get a Flagship, U get a Flagship, U get a Flagship.” Lol

Exhibit A: Miami. We were told we would be Adidas’ Flagship, their Oregon (verbatim). This meant we would always be the highest valued FL team & ACC team. Well, the 1st part was rather easy to fulfill as the only other schools sponsored by Adidas in FL r all G5 programs. The latter? Not so much; the highest paid ACC school is UL, so now we’re both considered Flagship. The irony of Adidas saying we will be their Oregon is that FIU & FAU have received more alternates. Lol

Exhibit B: UW was said to be their flagship in the PAC-12 then B1G. That was one of the main reasons they made the switch. Well all the promises made to UW has now switched to PSU (literally).

4. Nike lost its way under its predecessor. He was more tech v. understanding Nike’s DNA, putting sports 1st. Nike is back to putting its athletes & sports, first. Part of the reason Nike was OK w substituting UTenn for USCe was its relationship w A’Ja. It was to help grow her brand while taking care of her alma mater. Nike is no longer sitting; they r now being extremely aggressive in the NIL arena, locking down top players at the AAU circuit & kids playing at Nike branded schools at the CFB & CBB level.

Apologize for the lengthy post, but wanted to be as thorough as possible.

The desire for alternates is idiotic. We have a great look that is a classic in cfb. I don’t want to be Oregon. That is for loser programs. These last several years with adidas is the best we’ve looked in a long time. Nike had us looking like circus clowns the last couple of years we were with them. Just hideous stuff. Hurry up and sign with adidas and end this nonsense.

Lol; this Texas A&M player used the Nike Vapor Edge Speed 2 as the donor shoe to customize it look like an Adidas Ant Edwards 2 shoe. Lol. Technically this is OK for TAMU as TAMU has a side partnership w Nike, but I lol’d at it. Look good, play good.

Post of the year. Saying what all of us can see, out loud

Looks like @Rellyrell called it perfectly

A few select posters think I have this ulterior motive against Adidas, when all I’ve ever done is provide context as to y I’m against them repping us. I get the $$ aspect, but for as far long as Adidas have come in the U.S market, they r still light yrs behind. Their unis r a clear cut second tier b/c they don’t use fit tech. Every seam work on these new unis bleeds through the numbers, & this new separate faux dri-fit/mesh concept they now use makes double digit unis part like the Red Sea.

The name plates on the back r very High School-ish. Also ppl may not know this, but due to how much extra material is used on these jerseys making a looser fit, it creates drag that will slow down a player’s top speed. It also allows defenders the ability to make tackles a bit easier.

The premier Nike schools r using the same template as the NFL. If anyone watched the 9er v. Falcons game, when Bijan & McCaffrey were trying to exchange jerseys, they needed help removing them b/c they r all fit to the player’s profile, creating a nice, tight fit reducing drag.

So Kudos to Adidas for finally stepping in the 21st Century w their designs, but it’s a rip or knock off from Nike’s early - mid 2000’s feature w/o the tech to complete the fit.
