Addict to Addict - Mark Walton

Sorry but I disagree with those blaming WEED.

WEED never made me or others I know aggressive...quite the contrary.

I do not think weed makes you more aggressive WHEN YOURE HIGH.

But like I said, were you more aggressive when you weren’t smoking weed? I saw myself, and others, grab ahold of our emotions once we laid off the gas.

Walton has been given the key$$$$ at 21 years old. The guy is making a LIVING (well, was).

Smoking on the reg can really affect your judgement of the future. Especially a person making in excess of 500k+ per year. At that point, you've made it.

Burning took the fire out of me. I craved it every day and it really affected how passionate I was. It was my crave. It was my fix. Everyone has one, and mine was weed. As harmless as it may be on a daily basis, IT WILL AFFECT YOU. Imagine handling that burden at 21 years old with minimal family connections/leadership. Even though Walton has been arrested 3 times in 3 months, you know the kid is at peace with HOW FAR HE HAS COME. Not many kids make it that far, that early. And weed will absolutely make you feel..... content.

I mean, the guy slapped a phone out of a drivers hand? What kind of NFL player does that? A desperate, misguided, judgement impaired human-being.

I feel for the guy. Call him stupid, but the guy is searching for some type of peace. And obviously, weed is not the cure for him (even it he may think so).

I pray for Mark, that he's able to fulfill his dream and his potential. 2 years ago, (maybe) before the weed, you know the guy dreamed and played like a man on a mission. He ran like a "GROWN *** MAN" for a reason. His peers coined that nickname for him. He was fighting for his family. The guy wanted more..

Here's to MW. I pray the man can see the light, maintains sobriety, and fulfills the internal wishes he has for his children -- being a great leader/father etc. etc.

Prayers to you MW. The guy sacrificed his brain and well-being for us fans. Let us rally around those who give us existence as fans.

GO CANES

Edit: Weed doesn’t make you aggressive, I still will advocate for it over any other drug. But as some other posters have said, it’s probably other core issues that need to be dealt with.
Yeah, we tend to talk about people like they have no other problems, no pre-existing conditions. Like a substance abuse problem is something a strong willed person just gets over. It's easy for those of us without a problem to say "I would just not do that because there's so much to lose", but there's a reason the world is full of people who have blown great opportunities. There's a reason that doctors and nurses continue to smoke and drink. There's a reason why people with a lot to lose still do things that will make them lose it.

I don't know Walton's story...maybe he's just a moron. But I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt because he's not nearly the first person to throw away an opportunity because he was having trouble dealing with his demons.

Good luck young man, I hope you find what you need.

I tend to laugh at people who smoke weed for being slow and lazy, but as you point out, what about when they're not high. It seems very possible that a person that relies on weed to feel relaxed might be real uptight when they aren't high. Again, I don't know the kid's story but I can easily believe that if he smokes a lot he may feel pretty fcked when he's sober.

Hit the Nail on the head with that last sentence. Absolutely.

Only when I COULDN'T get some......for medicinal purposes of course.

Cannot deny that. Great points.

But, myself, as a kid who first started smoking weed at 22, and who got a decent salary out of college, I feel like I’m seeing him go through the same struggles. I could be WAY OFF, but got **** it’s eerily similar.

One thing is for sure, better that Mark Walton was shook, or kicked in the ***, at 22 years old instead of barely skipping his way through his rookie contract. Like you said @GOCANES05 , tough love.

Daggum man! What a story. Blessings on blessings to you and your fam.

How many people here have addicts close to them ?

Imagine the horror in the 10 years of my daughters addiction my family went thru , I’m a SCARED father from this I’ll never recover from my wounds typing this is tough.

It’s tough for the loved ones too. No one should minimize what you’ve gone through.

I’m an advocate of trying to fix it before it gets to that tough love stage where the entire family is thrown into ****. Sometimes, that’s impossible, though, because the person with the problem either doesn’t see it as a problem or refuses to participate in getting better.

In a way, this has been therapeutic for me to talk about, as I am LEARNING some **** from some OG’s. And truthfully, I’m in FL getting sober, back with my family.

All the best to you sir @GOCANES05

I think he'll bounce back. This was a reality check but I believe he'll pull it together and get another opportunity.

Losing his parents and all the head trauma are much more likely for why he is having these outbursts than him smoking weed. Tons of people smoke weed everyday and don't get the side effects you mentioned. Perhaps he does get those side effects, but people going off the deep end after many hits to the head/losing a parent much more often than people that smoke weed everyday.

I have had this stuck in my head since reading this post last night. Not making light of the situation at all. You just got the smoke weed every day stuck in my head.

just trying to be sure...What violent thing has he actually done?

If your talking about slapping the phone incident...he actually looked rather calm in that situation if you ask me.

The dude is self destructing being at home in Miami with money and now smoking weed. The problem is after the first incident he should of just stayed up in Cincy. I mean Chad Thomas and him are close, and Chad hasnt been in anything and they pretty much are around the same people.

All this demons, CTE, talk is bulsh*t if u really ask me.

So bc weed took the fire out of u and u craved it everyday that has to be the reason for Mark's woes as of late?

Joe Rogan has the best podcast in America right now, he smokes weed. Dave Chappelle is the greatest comedian of this generation, he smokes weed. Seth Rogen, Willie Nelson, Lady Gaga, almost every rapper, they all smoke weed and they're all millionaires.

My point is that it's irresponsible for anyone except for those closest to Mark to act like they have full knowledge of his situation. Using weed as a scapegoat is the easy thing to do. If I didn't know any better i would have thought this was coming from the man Stephen A himself.

Everyone gotta do them, but what’s a better representation, a handful of millionaires or the hundreds of thousands of ppl whose life has been destroyed and never reached their full potential due to smoking weed?

The sad part of this entire deal is the kid hasn't been good enough so far for the NFL to really care about "saving" him as he washes at minimum his professional career down the toilet. This is really where we need to hear about that "Cane Brotherhood" that we hear so much about at least trying to intervene with him.

Perhaps that is already happening. Perhaps he is or isn't or won't be receptive to it but if the kid has no real familial support in place and the NFL is ready to forget he existed then I really hope help comes from his college time.

Not one for excuses. We all have our opinions, bur lets not pretend that everybody, especially hs and college educated individuals, are deeply knowledgeable of the laws, rules and norms of American society. Ignorance of the law or individual circumstances are not passes for bad or illegal behavior. I'll stand firm on my belief that we as AA, knowing the unequal and prejudicial application of laws and sentencing should be the #1 group of American citizens to be the MOST LAW Abiding group of all in this country.
