heartbreaking all around. Just want to add that turning left in front of the other lane traffic needs more attention brought to it. I understand you cannot assume someone is going 80 when you are turning left. But I will have people honk at me at flashing yellows because I refuse to take a chance turning left if I do not have clear vision and know for a 100 percent fact it is a safe left turn. I truly believe we need more rigorous driving courses. Some of the driving mistakes I see every day are truly frightening. Praying for a higher power to give the family of AD and those kids strength during this time.

Lots of places in New Jersey don't allow this at all.

We have traffic patterns that force a right turn and a loop around if you need to go left to avoid this very thing.

Think all cars 2013 or newer need an EDR.
If course I'm sure certain manufacturers have much more/better data than others (Tesla for instance)

Don't think it really compares to plane black boxes which are designed to basically be indestructible
Yep, unlike a black box, it doesn’t have to be removed. You access it through the OBDII port under the drivers column and download the data. Dealerships use it to find data on fault codes, recent rpm, speed, shift point data etc.
I have a Tazer for my Jeep. I plug it in and can change all types of CPU default data. The manufacturers did stop allowing some changes a few years ago.
LE can download this data, but in some jurisdictions it requires a warrant.

People acting like you can’t post your opinion, share rumors, or ask what if/speculative questions on a message board. Who cares?

I’ll let facts come out before I call him guilty or whatever but under no circumstances am I wasting my time/effort and going out of my way to stay hush/defend what certainly could be a ****** that killed 3 people reckless driving, including 2 kids.

Someone in the area was giving me info that apparently a reporter he follows posted (and was quickly asked to remove) a witness statement. I guess they have to keep it private until they complete the investigation. They reported that accident had double digit witnesses that stayed and waited to give a statement because it was so bad. That doesn’t happen if there’s not a smoking gun they want to expose - like someone speeding and driving recklessly - which is exactly what this witness stated.

Heartbreaking situation for the family. Even if AD isn’t charged criminally and is capable of playing, I hope UM sits him the season and gets him counseling. Taking three lives is going to devastate him. A lot of people don’t recover from something like that and take dark turns in their life.

Police say Hayes was driving the car involved in this crash, which now has claimed three lives. No charges have been filed as of now as the investigation is ongoing, cops say.

I've learned that Hayes had been involved in two other crashes in recent history and had been ticketed on at least seven different occasions.Cops alleged he was going 80mph on US-1 in Miami just a few weeks ago, also once raced with another car on the highway at 90+, and another time almost sideswiped a police car.

For those in Florida who are old enough, not working in law, law enforcement or insurance, you still know, this is going to end badly for this young man. It's tragic all around. I honestly don't know what I would do at his age and I mean that. I can only just pray for him and his family because this is going to be rough. More than anything, I pray for the parents and family of these children that lost their lives. I already have prayed for everyone touched by this tragedy. I hope he has strong support and is blessed.

He was going 80 in a 40? At the very least he’s looking at a reckless driving

If, and i emphasize IF, it was determined he was doing 80, or even really close, he should spend considerable time in prison. I have compassion for accidents. I’ve sped in cars, I’m sure we all have. I have zero compassion for a habitual and repetitive aggressive and reckless driver, who has been cited for it several times, not learning a hint of a lesson and killing 3 people, two of them children.

If he was going 80, holler at me in about 7-10 homie.

I was an idiot kid at that age, too, so I’m careful to preach here. But, man, something about giving these kids, with lots of entitlement and little accountability, bags of money and fast cars doesn’t seem wise in the grand scheme of things. There’s pain that hurts and pain that alters. This is tragic, preventable, and will forever alter myriad lives.

I’m not going to pass judgement until we have actual facts, but I will say this.
Apache and Hellcat powered vehicles or Raptors or Coyote engine vehicles etc,. are not toys.
My Jeep 392 can go from 0 to 60 in 4 seconds and it’s got the aerodynamics of a washing machine. I also own a Raptor and have owned several Hellcat TRX’s.
An Apache or Hellcat Durango, is a race car engine in a 5700lb vehicle. You cannot handle this power unless you are a mature and experienced driver.

Sure, however it's important to say Eye Witnesses aren't trained to accurately give speed estimates. All they could say is he was travelling fast. Not how fast. So smoking gun? I mean smoking gun in the that he likely was speeding? sure. Smoking gun in that he'd be found guilty in a court? idk bout that. And Speeding on a 40mph speed limit 6 lane road isn't exactly a surprise whatsoever. I'm sure every hour of every single day the majority of people are going closer to 50 than 40 there. Now people likely aren't going 60+, but again you trusting an eye witness to accurately estimate a car going 55mph vs 65mph with no other reference or ground truth around them?...

Also given the other driver was a 78 year old lady, I'm sure its possible her age played a big factor in misjudging the cross traffic speed, and possibly panicking in the moment instead of accelerating out of the way or something...

As a grandparent I,went to the FD to check the one I had in my car. They are a lot more intricate and probably safer than what we had when my 4 were born. I couldn’t live with myself if I had not done this. It is free. Honestly it should be a part of health insurance coverage and required before a baby leaves the hospital.
We went to the FD for them to check our car seats when we were new parents. That was always a big fear of mine.

None of that matters right now. I have 6 & 9 year old sons. I can’t fathom the loss that family is going through right now. It’s heartbreaking.

I pray that family can find some peace and those babies can rest easy

Very true. Even LEO’s that are trained to access speed by eyeball are frequently wrong.
I had a THP pull me over near Nashville. Claimed I was going 15mph over speed limit in a 2005 GTO.
First he said he clocked me. I said, you didn’t have your radar on. Then he said he visually clocked me.
I said I’ve had my cruise control on for 15 minutes at 65mph.
My wife confirmed. He finally backed off.
He saw a 400hp sports car and thought he had an easy ticket.

The fact three people died is going to be a factor here and I would find it stunning if he isn't charged with a crime IF it is determined he was going over the speed limit. Sadly, it would seem highly likely he was speeding because you don't need to stay at a Holiday Inn Express to know a 40 mph collision simply doesn't cause that amount of damage. Quite the sickening story.
