AD Blake James: IPF

Indoor Facility has been quoted as being between $20 and $40 million. For those surprised about it not being a full field, remember that the school exists in an enormous metro area, not Gainsville in an empty swamp or Oxford in the Mississippi Delta. Space at a premium. Property value high.

$28M for a IPF? I know it's in Coral Gable$ but ****. Is there plans to have more accommodations than just a field with lighting, acoustics, and HVAC? Even if the facility is 160'x400' that's $438/SF....insane.

Don't forget it's got to be built to hurricane standards (no pun intended).....which are the toughest in the nation.
That and the clear height is way up there, with no interior columns.

If it was just a field in the middle of a big building then you are probably looking at 15 million. When you throw in offices, weight room and all the extras it starts to add up. You will also have to believe UM wants a few million extra just in case something goes over. Heck I would wager climate control is somewhere around 1.5 to 2.0 million. The money isn't in the shell, it's in everything else.

Theres clarification....adding football offices, weight room, ect. Didn't know if they were adding more space since they built the new athletic center

Our Canes are currently in their 4th lightning delay of the week but there are still some on this board that stick to the "but the teams in the 80's didn't have an IPF" line.

Thank God Donna is gone. We would have to donate another 5 million to Clinton Family Slush Fund.

$28 million for the Indoor Practice Facility, which Richt said will be one of the best in the country.

Clemson paid about 10 million for their indoor facility, but of course construction costs are much cheaper in South Carolina, than Miami.

FSU's was $15 million, UF's was originally $15 million, but ended up costing $17 million.

The teams in the 80's didn't have these lightning censors they use now.....those things are set to detect a long way from Coral Gables. Them missing time is usually attributed to strikes far away from campus. I wonder how many players from the pre-censor days were hit by lightning during practice?

Most of this missed time is due to the nature of being overly cautious when it's really not needed.

Richt is obviously sickened by the faqqy lightning warning system. He was openly mocking that the horn went off for lightning 25 miles away. Richt is a real man.

He's got that "I don't NEED this job" swagger, so he says what he wants. We haven't had a HC with balls in a while... its a nice change from sorority girls keeping secrets.

Make the IPF elite from the beginning and you won't have to worry about playing catch up when some silly sec team decides to up the ante by including jumbotrons and luxury boxes.

Uh, ever hear of liability and terms like "standards of practice" (not referring to FB practice per se..
Referring to safety standards.

They're screwed if they don't have lightning sensors, and lightning can potentially travel a long way, so they have to have them in place, and they can't ignore them. That said, I'm pretty sure I read they were going to cover one of the practice fields with the new IPF, so it would be full-sized, or very close to it, along with containing all the other areas that have been discussed.

Richt probably knew from the get-go that he had complete control of things. He didn't have it in Athens, but in Miami, he's the key to bringing the program back to where it was.

Watching replays of themselves at practice... That's a great idea. Won't be long....

Careful. You'll get some puddle of estrogen on here that'll cite some high school kid struck by lighting at practice.....in Kansas....in 1988. The FAU Stadium debacle should have ended lightning delays across all sports nationwide.
