If Vegas is right, 2018’s bowl season will look like this

"College Football Playoff
  • Cotton semifinal (Arlington, Texas): No. 2 Clemson (11) vs. No. 3 Ohio State (10.5)
  • Orange semifinal (Miami): No. 1 Alabama (11) vs. No. 4 Washington (10.5)
Two recent Playoff rematches! These aren’t my own bowl predictions, buuuut ... my CFP is probably gonna look a lot like this one.

The only real prize for ranking No. 1 is “hosting” a geographically friendly semifinal. These are about the same for Bama. Flip them around if you like.

The rest of the New Year’s Six
  • Sugar (New Orleans): Oklahoma (10) vs. Georgia (10.5)
  • Rose (Pasadena, California): Wisconsin (10) vs. USC (8.5)
  • Peach (Atlanta): Miami (9.5) vs. Auburn (9.5)
  • Fiesta (Glendale, Arizona): Boise State (10) vs. Penn State (9.5)

So that means they're projecting that we have a pretty good season BUT they're projecting that we lose to Clemson again in the ACC Championship game.

What do you think??

Would be a nice consolation prize going to Atlanta if we miss out on playoffs. Different stadium than the scene of the crime in '05.

Auburn by 10. We aren't deep or big enough in the trenches on both sides of the ball. When we get our O-line together and can consistently run the football we will be ready to compete will elite programs. SEC and Clemson have dominated college football because they can control the line of scrimmage on offense and defense.

O line play will determine whether we are a 1 loss team or a 3 loss team IMO. Much more so than QB play. An average QB with 4 seconds to get the ball out will be much more successful than a stud with only 2.5 seconds. I think they will put it together and our 1 loss will be to Clemson in the ACC championship game.

shut up, competed against elite team at the time with Notre Dame last year and what happened? LSU is more talented on the defensive side of the ball than auburn so what you are insinuating is that we can’t compete with them too right?

Auburn just got smoked by the “real national champions” UCF from the AAC

I feel like i just read a statement prepared by paul finebaum... sounds great but reality is SEC doesnt dominate college football. The sec has one or two teams that have things pre wrapped for them to make the playoffs every year. If you look at how the sec does come bowl season as a whole you wouldnt make that statement. They struggle annually from top to bottom. The rest of your point is valid but it applies to any team that is set up for success. The trenches is the blueprint for success. I think our oline is better than it gets credit for though. Well be fine.

Meh. I guess. I think most Cane fans who don't have homer glasses know we probably aren't taking out Clemson this year in the ACC title game. We are still a year away I think. But I don't want the Peach Bowl. Sheesh. It would be a home game for those SEC bums. Which they wouldn't deserve because they wouldn't even have made it to the SEC title game.

UCF beat Auburn. We're far more talented than UCF this year and last.

Auburn hasn't improved significantly since then.

While our OL must surely improve it is not definitely not incapable

Auburn and all other SEC teams will have a very hard time containing our talented WR's probably the best i nation, ....and our three headed Running attack

We have a great chance against Auburn or anyone else in the SEC short of Bama this year.

Just an off guy game vs clemson imo, they weren’t really 32 points better than Miami. They played close games all year too when ncstate put up 31, getting beat by Syracuse too. We aren’t that far away from them we just got our *** beat that game and they sliced through the defense playing that soft *** coverage early on and malek missing that td to Jeff Thomas changed the complexion of the game completely

Also, will someone define "elite"

Playoff?, TOP10?? TOP 20 ??

There are only two teams that I think we may be outclassed .....Bama and Clemson. But if we're clicking on all cylinders we stand a good chance against even those two

With all the other top teams we stand as good a chance as any other "elite" team.

That puts us in pretty good company. So while we must continue to improve, we are far from being on the outside looking in....winning the ACC and beating Clemson is not impossible for us.

OL is a major concern for us. I think Rosier will be up and down like last year, only hopefully more up than down compared to a year ago. I'm hoping the depth of talent at the skill positions can help Rosier become more consistent.

My other major concerns (that don't get talked about enough):

1) DL depth - We lost Norton/McIntosh/Thomas/Harris, so that's going to sting all around. At DT, we're going to have to figure out if Willis is the goods, and if one of Ford/Bethel/Silvera is ready to hold down the other spot inside. I don't think we can rely on Jordan Miller or Tyreic Martin to give us any snaps this season. D-Ends - I'm not that worried about, but our depth at DE isn't going to be as seasoned and deep as last year - we still have talent out there, but not as much depth. Jackson/Garvin along with D-Jack/Patchan are a good 2-deep, but past that, we'd better hope Rousseau continues his dominant ways from the Spring. NOTE - we're not "bad" on the DL - still pretty **** good and one of the best in the ACC...just saying that there's some questions left to be answered.

2) Kicker - What? Yep...losing Badgley leaves a gaping hole. Yes, Badgley missed some kicks (including only making a combined 2 of 5 FGs against Clemson/Wisky last year)...but for most of his career, he gave us consistency and was steady at the K spot. Bubba Baxa is the heir apparent as a true Freshman, and is universally acclaimed as a top kicking prospect, but...so was Zach Feagles as a P - and we saw that he struggled as a Freshman specialist last season. Badgley was also our kickoff guy, so either one of the walkons or Feagles will have to take that on unless Baxa can handle the double-duty.

My hope is that Baxa is indeed an upgrade from Badgley, but there's no guarantee he will be as a true Freshman. That's a really tough thing to do, come in as a true Freshman and be a key player as a specialist.

We had some games come down to a kick last year in key situations - take the GT game for instance. We drove it down into FG range down 2, and Badgley made the winning kick in the rain. Is Baxa, as a Freshman, capable of that this year? I hope so, but you never know. For a team like us threatening to win the ACC and make a New Year's Six game, having a capable kicker is really key.

LSU probably has the worst coach in the SEC. No I don't expect them to beat us. Probably should have been more clear. I am not talking about the entire SEC being dominate(assumed that was obvious). Alabaga Georgia Auburn are more talented deeper programs right now especially in the trenches. UCF would have probably rolled us without our TOP 3 playmakers out. We limped into that game. No one wanted to play UCF in a bowl game.
