…#44, TE Owen Ruskavich. He’s a huge walk-on (6’7) who is starting to come on. Very good in-line blocker and hands catcher.

Miami has dynamic options who will command the majority of the snaps (Lofton, Bauman, and emerging Brock Schott), but Ruskavich has a chance to help us in a McCormick-type role.

When’s the last time we had a good walk on
Like, “can play and not get embarrassed” walk on? Myles Mooyoung. He’s on scholarship at Coastal Carolina now.

If you’re taking about legit good walk-on players, the last one I can think of was Joaquin Gonzales.

UM doesn’t have a ton of great walk-ons because they’re a private school and tuition is expensive if you don’t have a scholarship. You’re limited to walk-ons who are also wealthy essentially. With scholarship limits going up again, you probably won’t see many walk-ons at all anymore.

Was there a kid named Popovich (or something similar) in the 90s? Like young Reggie and Santana era? I remember we had to use some walk ons then because of the NCAA sanctions, and his name seems to be familiar lol

Jeff Popovich. Started as walk-on WR, earned scholarship and became starting safety. Had a cup of coffee in the NFL then became a reality TV star for a while. Aaron Moser was another guy from around that time who actually caught a few TDs in competitive games and I think also earned a scholarship. Track guy. A few others. Marshal Few got some reps at WR while here. And a few years ago Fentress (forgot first name) got reps and even a few starts at LB or safety.
