Gabe Marks has made a name for himself as an All-PAC 12 WR but also is one of the more interesting guys in college football. This whole post game press conference is worth watching but at the 18:42 point in the video he starts talking recruiting and sheds some insight that is worth listening to.

It's true about most things in life, especially jobs. People lie in interviews. You base your decisions off resumes, referrals and answers over a 1 hour period. It's not until they start working that you truly understand if they can handle the job. I hired a guy once with more experience i could have hoped for, only to watch him fail miserably and make my life **** re-doing his work.

This is what makes it key to have guys on staff tapped in to the local scene in order to get REAL feedback on kids....their home life, work ethic, attitude, etc. That information is priceless in building a winning culture and sustaining it year after year with the right guys.

You know you just don't know until you know. You know?

He does make sense but I wasn't really able to get past the dude looking more like he works at Best Buy than being an all conference wideout.

Great share, thank you! He kept it real the whole time, acknowledging a lot of things that happen behind the scenes that we may have a good idea about that are happening, but don't always know the whole story. I really liked his perspective on recruiting and his analogy of a cat and mouse game, which is extremely accurate imo. That's what really bothers me about player ratings and the ranking system, there is just so much to account for when evaluating players that never gets factored into their rating. Sometimes these guys just know how to play the game and can do and say all the right things to the right people and fool them into earning scholarships when they don't even like football. Some guys are also talented freaks that have no business playing but people get blinded by their ability and are in denial about the rest of the negative stuff like character, work ethic and what have you. Good stuff from him.

Lastly, anyone else think he was just high af during that entire interview? Definitely seemed like it to me lol.
