A note on the Portal

I'd not go for a DE then. We are stacked there. Sure, if an elite guy want to flip to us for reasonable NIL. But that's not happening.
Unless u think the freshman r gonna come in and contribute. They need another SDE Lowe and McConathy should not be the only SDE on the roster, consider injuries as well. Im positive Blount moves inside and due to Lowe’s injury and getting no experience this year they should def prioritize a SDE 1 that can produce like Bain or Mesidor.

They are good at at WDE, Pickett, Lightfoot, Scroggins, Bryant, and the Freshmans.

I understand your reasoning. Personally, I count Blount as a SDE/3-Tech hybrid. I'd rather go get a backup DT than a DE1. If JT and Lewis decide to go DE vs DT (or both) so be it.

Charles
Lowe
Layfette
Scroggins
Blount
Lightfoot
Pickett

We only take one if they are nfl material and willing to take less $ to work at Miami. Otherwise, 2026 Miami will dominate inside allowing Lightfoot/pickett to rotate in and the others to help set the edge.

Gotcha, it probably depends on how Blount develops. I just think the fact they played him inside so much and he’s still so young that he’ll continue growing. Not that it really matters to me, If he stays SDE that can slide inside or if he continues growing and becomes a 290lb DT.

I mean, you're not wrong. Coaches did call him a DT. But that's essentially because Bain refuses to come off the field, so Blount only sees the field as a DT on passing downs. I think Blount is perfectly capable of playing SDE. And if Moten comes back, I prefer Moten/Scott as our IDL starters, with Blount sharing starting snaps with Lowe to keep them both fresh, and then jumping inside on passing downs like this year.

For the first time since being here he has genuine on field results to point to. It's going to get wicked.
The only thing still holding us back is being attached to the ACC. Other programs use that as a tactic to negatively recruit against us.

So I'd assume at this point that Moten, Fletcher, and Lofton are returning. I'd assume Lyle, 1 Corner, and Emory Portal. Bell is a 50/50, but either way I don't see us going and spending big at OT in portal. If he stays good, if not I'd actually expect Cantwell to be starting LT and One of Okunlola/McCoy/Kinsler to earn starting RT job. Personally I'd 100% target a true TE1 type at like top of Tier 3 priority, but I gues I don't see that happening if Lofton sticks at TE for us.

Tier 1: QB1

Tier 2: Center > LB1 > Nickel (unless one of young guys truly steps up here or maybe Poyser to Nickel, but that'd elevate Safety to Top of Tier 2 needs)

Tier 3: Outside WR > SDE (specifically NOT just a pure pass rusher) > Safety3

Tier 4: DT3/4 > LB2 > TE2 > RB3 > QB2

I see us getting 8-10 portal guys. Maybe another 1-3 strictly for depth. But I wouldn't expect much more.
