A notable improvement on OL

The team is a disappointment and we need a new head coach, but I wanted to highlight the team's improvement in pass blocking. Coach Justice and the players (most of whom are back in 2022) have come a long way. Below is our ranking in sack percentage, which is the percentage of dropbacks that end in sacks. The actual percentage is in parenthesis. We hung around the 80s, bottomed out in Manny's first year with no experienced OL, and now are solid at 46th.

2017- 85th (6.86%)
2018- 78th (7.14%)
2019- 122nd (11.06%)
2020- 82nd (7.32%)
2021- 46th (5.78%)

For comparison, our old friend Stacey Searels is 124th.
While i agree and happy about the pass blocking do you have anything on run blocking stats. Have they improved and?

OL was better, but don't get too excited. The reduction in sacks could also be impacted by the emphasis in getting the ball out quicker. Finally, Miami remains unable to run the football. Short yardage run plays were a painful to watch. Inability to run block speaks to lack of physical toughness.

Better in pass blocking as the season went on, beyond terrible in the run game all year for whatever reason

PFF has Miami ranked as the #5 overall pass blocking team. That's huge.

The OL usually takes so much sh*t - they really deserve to be congratulated on the job they did this year.

It was a lot of fun watching TVD consistently toss bombs, and the time our OL gave him was a large part of that.

This narrative is tired and untrue. Is he Vince young? No but he’s not Brady either with his mobility
All I’m saying is I wouldn’t credit TVD’s pocket presence with the reason for good sack rates. OL has improved, playcalling aside from short yardage has improved and TVD is getting it out pretty quickly.

Still can't gain a yard to save our lives when it truly matters. Lies, **** lies and statistics

If we could elevate our short down yardage schemes. Try to keep Justice then.

We got to get to less than 2 sacks per game. This could be the difference between winning and losing these close games

Alabama had 4 sacks
Mich St had 3 sacks
Pitt had 4 sacks
NC State had 4 sacks
UNC had 4 sacks
UVA had 4 sacks

There are 50 teams that average less than 2 sacks a game

Improved but I can't remember the last time we were somewhat elite here
Sacks per dropback is the measure that means something

To defend the OL - it's not their fault in short yardage the coaches consistently ran the 190 lb RB up the middle instead of the 230 lb RB.

D$...

I would offer TVD as slinger is driving far more the OL metric than the OL themselves. I believe this OL is just better suited to play for a QB1 like him vs QB1 King.

To be clear I'm not being negative on King, but if I had to pick between a 100% healthy TVD or King, I'm giving Tyler the nod with this OL.

RB weight has nothing to do with OL being penetrated and RB initial contact with D is behind/at LOS.

But in short yardage situations - if our RB is met a yard behind the LOS or at the LOS, do you think we have a better chance at winning that contact with a 190 lb RB or a 230 lb RB?

I'm not saying saying the run blocking doesn't need to be better - it definitely does. I'm saying not performing in short yardage isn't 100% on the OL. There were questionable personnel & play call/design that contributed, and that's out the OL's control.
