Our OL versus their DL is gonna be something to watch

My concern is we didn’t see anything tonight to make us see that we can hurt their secondary. Not that we can’t, we just didn’t see anything

But I think we flip the script on the score from last year and win an ugly one

I feel like we will force some turnovers

Purposeful though, no? I felt like Dawson was holding back all night.

Gonna be a battle, think tonight we showed we aren’t a pushover team. Much improved inO and D m, should be fun. Teams focus should be on the conference schedule but this has potential to be a swing gane

Not sure if it was holding back or not (I think it was) but if vanilla is working then no sense in showing anything else right?

I wasn’t saying it in a negative way just saying we didn’t see

Hopefully it’s in a purposeful way which I lean towards since Dawson is a legit OC imo

Agreed i just meant if they look like 2022 TXAM vs 5 star U they are on paper. If they have a close game I'd be more worried than a blowout.

I just bumped @GojiraCane 's thread comparing the teams. They're definitely more talented than us on paper. But it's not as glaringly obvious after what Mario's done to our roster this offseason. They have weaknesses. Praying Jimbo goes full Jimbo in this game and micromanages his coordinators to the point they're ineffective.

I think this one we lose, from a roster stand point they are ahead of us. I want to go all homer after a win but I have to call it like I see it. Hopefully wrong asf though, its a big win if we pull it off just off optics.
Not saying we win, but they had a similar roster last year and stunk so im not ready to say they win based on roster

for the record i think we drop 3-4 games this year, just starting to feel like next week isn't one of them

If the offensive game plan is more aggressive and vertical we will win…which I expect it will be.

Feeling very confident about the defense and run blocking…and special teams which are 3 huge ingredients

Should have beat them last year. They have talent but a lot of it is unproven and they have their on issues to fix on offense from last year

there are a few battles here

- Our O-Line Vs their D-Line (genuinely cannot decide who should have the upper hand but I mean…we watched our O-Line last year move A&M around

- Brown brothers/Kinchens/Williams Vs Anais Smith & Evan Stewart, with the way Kinchens/the secondary was able to play tonight gives me hope both of these guys will be contained.

- TVD + a new secondary, A&M loses I believe their top 3 DBs last year (S, nickel & CB), can TVD heal up enough and how will a more diverse passing attack perform against a new/young (but talented secondary)

- Mario Vs Jimbo, both are great recruiters but both are average Gameday coaches but when it comes to: current culture, grasp of the team, locker room & motivator give me Cristobal. It’ll be very interesting to see if Jimbo gives up play calling completely, one poster here mentioned that the offensive side of the ball is a mess right now because of lack of chemistry between Petrino/Fisher

- Guidry vs Weigman, now I know it should really be Guidry vs Petrino but Weigman is the one Guidry can confuse on the field. We did a lot a lot of new things and I can imagine that was very vanilla, Weigman will not have played in this atmosphere as a starter. Outside of Ole Miss last year he was 45/88 passing with 554 yards and 4 TDs in 4 games, that’s 138 yards a game on 22 attempts. Actually similar numbers to Gabbert who we just played. not much of a runner either.

They’re completely overloaded at defensive tackle (12!) and running back. They’re very thin at defensive end, and have a lot of youth on their team (just like us).

In all honesty, A&M should be favored to win. But we're at home, and being good at the line of scrimmage is a huge lift compared to last year.

I think i'd say 60/40 shot that A&M beats us but it's not a sure thing at all. We have to clean up some things from this week and play a really clean game... for example TVD's hand or whatever it was needs to heal, and we need to get the TE's involved in the game and use the middle of the field.

We'll need to play a mistake-free game with no turnovers, no dumb penalties, and we'll need a few more explosive plays than we saw today. And we can't take any steps back, like I didn't see any major defensive breakdowns today but we need to keep that going, and the tackling, from today.

The O line will be tested in a major way next week. If they can hang with A&M, they can hang with anyone on our schedule so it will be fun but nerve-wracking to watch.
Why should A&M be favored? They were 5-7 last year too. We should be favored by -2 to -2.5 if anything. That's essentially a pick em but favored makes no sense to me.

The passing attack needs to be more vertical next week. Trying to beat A&M to the edges with swing and pop passes won't work against their caliber of athletes. Oline needs to replicate what they did at college station last year. And most importantly, TVD needs to deliver us a victory.
