A change in strategy

We don't need to look any further than the 25 class and its class ranking.

Many around here were upset that Mario was failing at recruiting because the class was rated 13th in the nation, but class ranking be dam.ned. The 25 class has easily outplayed the 24 class.

The film doesnt lie and it looked like some ballers were coming for jobs not a jersey and nightlife last year and it shows with guys stepping in and not missing a beat.

I believe skill positions have plug and play guys with the exception of QB, the DL and OL have more developmental outside of stancil and cantwell (maybe cogdon charles). LB im kind of wondering whats the deal.We need another Wiley tbh. Did Bonner from NC ST Redshirt?

Im excited they focusing on guys that love ball love to win love being team all about perfecting their craft and bust *** on weekends just to show off the

It’s a smart strategy, but let’s not ignore that we lack top end guys. You gotta land the cant miss elites. We have no game breaker outside or at RB. Young not proven TE’s. Average LBers. Good not great DT’s. Tons of potential with DE’s if they develop. No QB on the roster that can start after Beck. DB is the only spot we’re set at next year. O line will drop off but I don’t think we’ll ever have a “bad” line.

No question the portal again will be needed come January.

This change in strategy is curious to me.

I guess the biggest question I have is: why now?

Mario has:
Lead recruiting under the best coach of all time at an elite program.
Was the head coach at another top tier program for recruiting.

He's had 10+ years to become an expert at the highest level in recruiting.

Why such a dramatic shift now instead of applying this from the start at Miami?

NIL also changes a lot of things now. Also who cares as long as it works and it could just be all BS that Mario leaked to cover up early misses

Whats curious about evolving and improving your approach ? MC likely realized his first two years here had too many misses and he needed to adjust. Thats the literal opposite action of the caveman mentality hes jestly accused of.

I guess, why it would take so long is what's curious to me.

It's a really big change and seems pretty obvious. Would seem like something he would have adopted at some point before 4 years into his career at Miami.

I wonder what specifically happened differently this year that didn't happen over the past 3 years here and 7+ years at Oregon/Bama that would prompt such a big change.

You already know, it’s because we missed on so many of our early Plan As. With the way NIL legislation hit it meant flips from the big boys were going to be though. So they had no choice but to dig deep and focus on kids that emerged their senior year. Credit to the staff for doing the work but they had no choice.

Technically he adopted that philosophy last year and all the current freshmen are proof of concept its been working

Agree that's the primary reason. I also don't think the "change in strategy" is as significant as is being implied. We had 8 of our 29 commits in October and November or 28%. The remaining targets we still hope to flip have been on our radar for a while, so 1 in 4 are senior evals.

To your point, NIL has driven up costs astronomically. Going after high profile kids late commits is crazy expensive. IMHO, Mario is choosing wisely not to join the bidding war for Cooper, Johnson and Russell, for example. And I never understood the Dia Bell rating. They reportedly commanded disproportionate NIL deals.

I think still they need to go get Tank to top off the class.
