A change in strategy

This 2026 class at least on paper is going to be transformational for us. You’ve got guys top to bottom who will either be Day 1 or Year 2 heavy contributors. The fewest long term projects/hopefuls I’ve seen of a Mario UM class.

This way, we won’t have to hit the portal so hard each year to fill so many vital needs. It should just be for plugging a few casualty holes here and there.

Now it’s just development, and if the staff can get these guys ready we significantly reduce that talent gap with OSU.

I prefer being ahead of curves (maybe we are? I don't know how much other programs are thinking/acting this way), but either way, it's good to see we are adapting with time. This is the opposite of stubborn, so at least that's somewhat refreshing.
Other programs have the ability to to do it but probably don’t have the juice/ money to flip kids that are improving as sr film gets out

I think this same philosophy has thankfully filtered into Major League Baseball. It seems that there is now a more significant interest in experienced college players versus high school bonus babies. Or I may be wrong. The increased dollars makes for people want to take fewer risky bets.
I’ve thought the same about baseball. Seems like more and more 1st round picks are out of college. 20 years ago it seemed like all the 1st rounders were out of high school because of all the “potential’, especially the pitchers. Now the best pitcher in baseball, Paul Skenes, came out of college.

Now that high school kids are getting paid openly this is probably even more important. The kids who let some money get to them and see them coast are probably going to do the same in college. The kids who are hungry and continue grinding should be more likely to continue that trend when they get to college

I remember this. Texas would literally lock up almost the entire class for 2010 in April 2009. All in one weekend. There would be almost no fluctuation in either direction.

Yup, Mack would have his whole class lined up by their junior year! **** was wild.

Mario retooled the recruiting staff as well, or just add to it? Forgetting here. Curious if our evaluators have also improved in general.

Another potential implication of heavy reliance on senior year evals is a really rough June recruiting period when other schools like U$Cw are filling their classes, Mario is leaving tons of room for late season flips. Makes for a really, really rough June on CIS where it appears like we've lost all our MoJo. OTOH, I'd much have a rough June than a really rough December.

If we had the class USC had in June we wouldn't need much late thoughh.

I don't hate it. If you want to be at the top of anything, you need to constantly evolve and figure out ways to do it more efficiently before others do. Watch next cycle as the big schools adopt this strategy because it is clearly working. Look at the guys making plays over the past cycle as freshmen.

If you care solely about optics and class ranking then this won't excite you. If you care about finding contributors and gamers, then you should like this strategy.

Anyone know who is a casualty because of this method? Those who will ‘flip’ on NSD because Miami told them to find another home? I’ve seen Tyran Evans mentioned.

Hasn’t officially happened yet but that DL from Missouri, Anthony Kennedy. Posters on their board say he ballooned to 360+lbs. Visited Missouri last week and supposedly going Arkansas this weekend.

June visits and commits are relatively new (since the virus days changed the visit schedule up). Don't remember a June this rough before. Felt like a morgue in here as every day one of our key targets committed elsewhere
