8/15 Practise

" Ever since we announced that D’Eriq is the starter, all three of those guys knew where they stood and they would have the opportunity to be that guy. I think tomorrow’s scrimmage will be a big job interview for that. It is almost like a preseason game for us and it is the first time to see how they handle a real game situation and how they handle bad things. When something bad happens, what do the next couple of plays look like? You need to have a pretty short memory at quarterback. How do they lead and how do they move the team? Ultimately, at the end of the day, the greatest measure of a quarterback is did the offense put the ball in the end-zone and score points? I think all three of those guys will get a great opportunity tomorrow. They have all done some good things and I couldn’t tell you if any of them have an edge. There are the two older guys and then the young guy, so I am excited to see how those guys respond as well.”

Baker's comments:

“The big thing obviously being very early in camp, a week into it, but not really a live scrimmage, we’re still very much a work in progress - but at the same time I’m really encouraged by this unit,” Baker said. “We’ve been emphasizing running to the football and hitting when we get there. We’ll clean up the mistakes as camp goes on, but these guys are looking to compete. There’s a lot of competition. Every position almost is up for grabs. There’s a hunger among this group.”

There also could be some depth chart shakeup after tomorrow evening when UM holds its first fall scrimmage.
Baker also said “effort and tackling” will be the keys he’s looking for in scrimmage No. 1.

Jared Harrison-Hunte, Jalar Holley and Jason Blissett are youngsters standing out, and Jon Ford, Nesta Silvera and Jordan Miller are returners that are expected to take on the brunt of the load.

“Nobody at that position has locked down the starting role,” he said.

At linebacker BJ Jennings and Waynmon Steed are both practicing well, per Baker.

“They both look great,” Baker said. “Those two guys are playing their tails off, have been in this system a long time, have really matured from a mentality standpoint.

"I think they're going to surprise some people this year."

Baker also said in the secondary “it’s wide open” for starting spots. He singled out CB Christian Williams as doing well and said CB Te’Cory Couch is “having an outstanding camp.”

At the safety level, Baker said safety Bubba Bolden is doing well coming off the injury that shut him down last season.

sounds like Ivey might get his job took... Christian Williams and Te’Cory Couch ain’t settling.

i used to wanna give susan the benefit of the doubt. Figured just ruthless guys beating up on a nice older lady.

But my god she needs any press privileges revoked. She is incoherent, never prepared and puts coaches/players in a uncomfortable situation to try to substantiate an answer to something they can't even understand.
