5 things I expect to see

Just commented this on another post but that's not going to work against guys like Lightfoot and Scott. Scott in particular will track him down quick and has been an elite tackler in space.
What's funny is my brain went to Justin Scott lol cause I remember him cutting off Marcel Reeds angle and I was like "that big **** shouldn't move as fast like that at that size" lol

McElroy noted in his preview that Fletcher is averaging 5 ypc AFTER contact in the playoffs. Ole Miss gives up 1.5 ypc BEFORE contact. Do the math. That's 6.5 ypc. We will definitely run the ball and force their safeties up. But I would like to see a nice mix of some playaction and end-arounds just to keep them honest. If they over-crash the middle, that end around will be wide open for Marion or Toney.
That's basically what FSU did and we torched them.

Guy was **** near stride for stride blocking for Toney on his punt return
Dude thank you for reminding me of that! lol I've been thinking that we should give him a handoff on offense cause he did play RB in HS.

Also, I would love for him to pick up Chambliss the way Jalen Carter picked up Jayden Daniels lol

Dawson and Beck aren’t getting enough credit for the OSU game (not from us but from national media)

OSU suffocates offenses and you can’t just out-athlete and out-talent them

You also can’t trick play them they just don’t fall for it or allow it

Becks decision making, accuracy, and Dawsons slight variations were CLEAN
I think you nailed it. Beck and Dawson are on the same page, but what's ever better is so is Mario and Heatherman on the same page with Beck and Dawson. It truly seems like a cohesive team from players to HC.

While people say you can't rely on Beck, etc., I think the detractors don't understand that the guy wins. He will do whatever he has to to keep the offenses on schedule (i.e., check down, flip the run game, get players aligned etc.)

If we're doing a direct comparison with say Cam Ward.
He was absolutely fantastic player and QB, but he freestyled lots and had tones of short drives, which in turn hurt our defense they were gassed, because they were never getting off the field (plus having to run stunts and twists).

This offense plays into the strength of our defense, a strong DL. Let the guys breath and do what they do best and it has been working.
Both Dawson and Beck understand that. They don't have to win the game, they have to give time for the defense to catch they're breath stay health, because guess what, they'll likely cause a 3 and out and give our offense a better field of position for our offense or cause a turnover.

When I watch, I think a relatively successful offensive drive for Miami is anything that is over 6 plays get on the opponents 50/45 yards line and has a TOP of over 6 minutes.

DTs should force Chambliss right into Bain, Mesidor, or Lightfoot.

DB blitz getting to Chambliss.

One thing Chambliss does when he buys time that he's been getting away with, is turning his back to the defense. Constantly having his back to the defense while trying to change direction and buy time. I just don't see how that can be sustainable.
I thought the same thing. He's gonna get killed against someone who studies film.

IF Dawson stays on schedule as he did vs OSU (he called a pretty impressive game to simply win and not look like the smartest man in the room), we'll be fine.

He used the running downs and formations tendencies and worked them to our benefit BIG time.
If he continues on this track, and I expect him too, we'll be ok.

Drag the game out, play in a phone booth, limit the other teams possession, let our fresh defense hunt and get a turnover or 2, and I would expect we score on 80% of our possessions vs this team.

Personally I'm seeing this as a 27-14 type game.
I agree Dawson called a great game, but he was helped out big time by the pick 6. It allowed him to (smartly) be conservative, which has worked splendidly the past 2 games. My worry is that he stays conservative this game when most likely we need to score more points to win.

Ohio State worked out in the end, but they had the ball down 17-14 in the 4th. You don't want to be in that position against an explosive team like Ole Miss.

Basically, what I am saying is let Carson cook. Yes, we need to keep our offense on the field to keep our D fresh and keep them out of rhythm, but we should be aiming to score 30+ imo.

1. Zone drops. I expect to see one of our DEs or a LB lined up at Edge and drop back into coverage. Lightfoot is likely to have an opportunity for a pick like UF did against Chambliss. It may change the entire game. They also run a lot of quick outs from inside WRs that allow opportunities for a break on the ball. Fitz, heads up, kid.

2. DT movement. I expect our DTs to collapse their interior, but our ends and Safety blitzes will determine if the play is extended. It may be the key to the entire game. UGA did it, but couldn't get home because Chambliss or Lacy broke contain.

3. Edge Set. I expect to see our DEs play under more control this game and set the edge against Lacy's bouncing. Lacy effectively bounced multiple runs he initially pressed against UGA.

4. Vertical attempts. I expect Carson Beck to throw more digs and deep in routes like he did a handful of times against SMU. This should come off PA and it's needed early to keep their Safeties soft.

5. Offensive blitz counters. I expect them to try to duplicate TAMU's blitz plan, and ideally we have underneath routes and a better overall plan for quick hitters.

If things go correctly, we should win. But, things don't often go as planned. If Chambliss runs more, I think it neutralizes some of our advantages, and maybe it becomes a toss-up game. I'm hoping one of our INT opportunities or two hit and flip the game.

Strong. Reasonable.

The Key: Chambliss or Lacy broke contain.

Dawson also lost, what would've been a TD drive, by Fletcher fumbling

I expect to see a bunch of red neck pieces of **** falling back on racism on social media when the lose

I’ve watched 7 full Ole Miss games, and yesterday in a separate chat, I wrote the defense Ole Miss most reminded me of was FSU. The differences are that Ole Miss has one good DB and a very active DT (Echols). If we neutralize those two players, have a focused plan to stay on schedule, and do NOT revert to predictable, conservative tendencies, it SHOULD look like most parts of the FSU game. Very similar weaknesses between those defenses.

I think he called a great game and took what the defense gave us. And I realize I am always banging on this staff for being too conservative, both playcalling-wise and aggression-wise (e.g., not trying to get points at the end of half), when that style has mostly suited us fine thus far. I also realize they might be protecting Beck to some extent.

I just feel that when you play those phone booth, low-possession games every week, and don't let your QB get in a rhythm, you put Beck in a tough spot in the event he has to play from behind, which he hasn't had to do since when, the SMU game? I just feel like you're asking to get burned playing 4 games in a row that way.

At some point you need to trust your guys to go win you the game.

I suppose all I am really saying is PLEASE DON'T RUN IT INTO STACKED BOXES OVER AND OVER, cause stacked boxes is most likely what we are gonna see. And if we do, let Carson cook and don't go back into a shell like you did in October.

I’m with you

I suspect Ole Miss defense isn’t quite as bad as the stats lead you to believe. I assume they have athletes out there. Same as our offense the way they’re playing at the moment is not indicative of the seasonal stat sheet

So as much as is being made about our defense vs their offense it’s probably gonna end up a bit of wash so ultimately feels like our offense will dictate the final score

The alternative ending you’re describing is the SMU game. Yes, some absurd things happened to allow that result, too, but we had the ball with an opportunity to make it a two score game multiple times and were very stuck on our tendencies that game. Shout to @Lance Roffers, @OrangeBowlMagic, and @skyman who were all aboard the ‘break these predictable/conservetive tendencies’ train.
