To actually live through the Jimmy years and experience it was amazing (even though I was uber young I remember a lot of those games). Once he got rolling from 86 onwards, any loss was a gigantic shock. Obviously he should have 86 added to the 87 title independent the Testaverde meltdown. Would have had 88 if not for the terrible Cleveland Gary call. We legitimately should have won 3 straight titles with him here. There is no revisionism in that statement.

Plus, Erickson owes at least 1 national title to the team and culture Jimmy built. Maybe even both if you count some sort of residual effect, and he drank himself out of running the program and recruited OL even worse than it is now.

What he accomplished in such a short time including ramping up our cultural effect on the game and stylistic elements makes him top 5. Lack of longevity in excellence like Saban or Bryant is why I can't put him number 1.

Penn State was dropping 7 an d8 into coverage and making it impossible to throw the ball. The running game was there. Highsmith was ripping chunks of yards on the ground. Jimmy should have told Gary Stevens to start running it more until they moved linebackers down to stop him and then the passing game would have opened up.

Pretty sure this already has a thread...To have Jimmy Johnson at 49 just make this list lose all credibility.
Actually...all 4 should be rated much higher.

I don’t think Richt belongs any higher than 136. And really his presence on that list has nothing to do with his disappointing stint at Miami.

Agree his relative Short stay you can't really put him above some , but in his prime when he had it rolling he was the best period and would roll the tide.

I would pick Johnson over every other coach. Ever.

Give him what paterno, saban, bryant, or anyone else has or had, he does more.

Erickson is way to low. People just dont understand how good of a coach he was. Even most of our own fanbase does not get it.

JJ was an innovator defensively, and ‘better’ than many of the 48 coaches listed ahead of him. He’s obviously down-rated since his peak at Miami was only four seasons, a 44-4 record and a 1 NC that could have been 46-2 and 3 NCs. Imagine what could have been had Jerry Jones not purchased the Cowboys. JJ would have eventually gone to the NFL, it was a goal of his after all, but he could have had a run of another 3-4 NCs before taking on the NFL.
