4 Students positive and 51 quarantined at UM

All classes are taped and available to any student who misses a class. If someone has to quarantine, they can just tune in to the Zoom class or review the taped class at a later time...

- Students who elected to take "in person" classes still have to bring their laptop and tune in to the "Zoom" presentation of the class. They want the students who chose the "remote" option to feel like they are part of the class.....

Manny said the team has a "hybrid" model of in person and remote classes. Wouldn't be surprised if they go all remote eventually (if they haven't already done that)

I'm glad the program is taking all possible precautions, but let's not pretend that if this continues it couldn't have a negative impact on the season. Again, I hope we get a full season. I want to see Miami play, and I think the kids are better off in the structure of the program than they are outside of it.

If University President's can't control the covid outbreaks on campus, they may have no choice but to send students home. If that happens, then what will the University President's do about its athletic programs? It's a legit concern that I brought up in other threads before students started arriving to campuses across the nation. Having classes online won't prevent campus outbreaks. Kids are going to be social, go to parties, etc. The students in the dorms aren't going to be sitting around their room wearing masks. They're going to socialize with the other people on their floor and in their dorm. It's what they do.

The football teams could do everything right and get derailed by the rest of the student population.

Maybe those other teams were handling it just fine and then one goofball messed it up for everyone.

**** is contagious as **** and I'm not going to fault head coaches for the blunder of whomever. That's just me though.

Basically this is the best time to take classes... you will get easy assignments, submit it whenever, bomb a test or two.... still get a A.

What a deal for flu virus that gives you a couple of days of sniffles for most of these young clowns.
 
Additional measures :

The school will be randomly testing over 3,000 people each month beginning next week to up its tracing and tracking efforts. There’s only so much administrators can do to enforce COVID-19 policies. It’s really up to students to respect public health guidelines and ensure the on-campus semester is completed in its entirety.

I think if there is an outbreak, I don't think they actually can send the kids home.

You can't stick hundreds of possibly infected kids on planes and disperse them around the country.

Once they brought the kids on campus, they have basically decided to ride it out. (Same with UNC, ND, Etc.)

My opinion.

I’m really continuing to feel like we have a team, a staff and more importantly an administration that’s taking football seriously again!!! **** that felt good saying that!

Obviously, they're not going to send infected kids home, but they could decide their institutions could no longer function if the infection rates get to a high level and send uninfected kids home. You're not going to keep healthy kids on campus if they have a high probability of getting infected. You evacuate just like when there's a high probability of a natural disaster hitting the area such as a hurricane.

There's an assumption that universities are better prepared with covid testing and contact tracing than local, state, and federal governments. I don't make thst assumption and things could get sideways in a hurry.

Some universities closed the Spring 2020 semester early because of Covid-19. The same thing could happen this Fall.

So do any teams get a bus load of hot COVID infected coeds and send them to visit their rival about a week or so before they play

look, I’m not against this but if schools are going to such extreme lengths to separate football and then men’s basketball players from the rest of the students can we all just agree that these guys are Collectively (not individually) at college to generate revenue for the schools? I say not individually because there are athletes who will demand their education, but the colleges look at them collectively as a source of revenue generation. And assuming schools admit this obvious fact, doesn’t that necessarily mean that the athletes are actually employees and deserve the benefit of being employees; legal protection, financial compensation, collective bargaining with the assistance of counsel.

Sorry to take this thread in a different direction but this pandemic and the NEED for colleges to play football and men’s basketball has completely stripped away the sham of amateurism.
