Miami is set to host over a handful of prospects on campus this weekend for the annual Legends Camp, where several Miami Hurricanes legends return to the Carol Soffer Indoor Practice Facility to help run a major camp among upcoming prospects.
Miami will host many blue-chip recruits including four-star 2028 linebacker Gabriel Player, who will be in attendance this weekend. I had a chance to catch up with Player about his recruitment with the Hurricanes and to preview the upcoming Legends Camp event.
Gabriel is out of Melbourne, Florida, where he plays high school football at Eau Gallie High School. This past season, he racked up a total of 59 tackles, two sacks, three pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and two interceptions.
According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Player is currently viewed as a four-star prospect among the 2028 recruiting class. He is ranked as the No. 62 player nationally, No. 4 linebacker, and No. 8 player out of Florida. Gabriel is currently measured in at 6-foot-3, 190-pounds.
A couple of months ago, Gabriel was in Coral Gables for a spring visit to watch the Miami Hurricanes practice. Now, he will be back on campus this upcoming weekend and is excited to meet the coaches again.
"I’m just excited to be around the coaches again," he added. "Just continue to build [a] relationship [with the coaching staff]," Gabriel said. "I have a really good relationship with everyone down there. They have shown me love from the beginning. They seem extremely genuine, which I love."
Mario Cristobal has completely flipped the script for the Miami Hurricanes Football program these past two years, and getting into the national championship really caught the eye of Gabriel:
"The things that stood out to me about Miami are that they are playing at the highest level right now, and they develop their players."
