Check it out....
OP, first off, extremely solid points.
Butch, is a known product...he's a safe bet. The U part 2 did nothing but re-introduce Butch to the younger generation. His name is extremely hot within So. Fla and there's no doubt in my mind, had Golden been fired last year and Butch came on board, on strength alone, our class would've shot up to a top 15 ranking.
Butch won 3 Big East titles under heavy sanctions. He went 3-0 in bowl games under heavy sanctions, won the State of Fla in his last year here including mopping UF in the Sugar Bowl when we were free of sanctions. He should've had one national title under his name b/c there was no doubt we would've mopped OU and their qb of Josh Heupel. They only put up 13 pts against FSU and FSU had no business being in that game (I digress)
He's probably even more knowledgeable now since he's been a color analyst which means he breaks down more game film today, than yesteryear. People clamour over Jon Gruden to get back into coaching and dude hasn't been a coach in 7 yrs, but b/c he's always on Sunday QB and you can hear his intelligence when it comes to X's and O's, people say, "he still has it."
Guess, what? Anyone who's listened to Butch over the radio or seen him on TV, knows he's still has it...and truthfully, he probably has it more now. He still hates seeing Miami lose...you can see it every time he's asked to speak on them at either halftime or after the game. He clearly identifies why Miami has struggled.
He wants the job, he's desperate for the job, and he's desperate to right the wrong. He'll come for $2m vs. having to pay $3-4 for someone else. He'll automatically bring credibility to the program and kids in the State will come back. He'll bring a Miami tradition back to Miami, reunite the fan base, reunite the alumni, former players will be able to be mentors again vs feeling alienated. There's just way too many positives, and not enough negatives to not justify this hire.
