#37

Lol, I hear u playboy. Personally, I despise duplicate numbers. There’s literally 100 #’s to chose from & 85 players, on avg., on a roster (the max u can have is 105, & we have 91).

There’s no reason to have duplicate #’s, but it’s the new trend across multiple schools. I remember back in the day we would fight for numbers. (Not literally, but race, push ups, Oklahomas, etc). Ur number, was ur number & it was an insult for a teammate to rock ur number.

At the end of the day, I blame Drake
It’s all in the name of recruiting. Back in the day upperclassmen got to pick their numbers and freshmen got the leftovers. (Remember Santana Moss wearing #48?) Now coaches promise high school kids numbers before they play a snap. Anything to get the advantage I guess.

I’ve wondered this myself. Especially since the guy not returning punts plays defense. Instead of rushing two equipment staffers out to help X take off the 37 jersey after every punt return, they could just take their time helping Brown on the sideline.

Yes, you would think the player with the hardest job on the return wouldn't be asked to rock two jerseys, especially considering the other guy is a defensive player and likely isn't going back right into a series.

Also this isn't 1980, quit retiring numbers and un-retire what we have retired, dumb antiquated tradition IMO.

I agree that retired numbers are stupid, especially for college but that’s not why players are doubling up. I think Miami only has like three numbers retired anyway. It’s just that there’s popular numbers that lots of players want an there’s unpopular numbers that nobody wants. Just based on punt return team alone. There are two #7s on the roster and zero #37s. There’s plenty of unused numbers. It’s just that nobody wants those

OP meant to say neon Deion wouldn’t dare put clicks at risk by that poor display of fashion. Tighten up Mario

You have X and Jacolby wear 37 because Brown plays defense and it allows you to have consistency in your process.

If Brown is on the field on 3rd down he would have to get to the sideline get the jersey on and get back out and that would take too long.

If you watch the sideline they have time to get the jersey on X or Jacolby while defense is making that third down stop.

I can’t imagine the *****ing on here if they tried to do it the other way and got a penalty or ended up giving up a first down to a fake because we only had 10 on the field or Brown didn’t get lined up properly.

There are 4 numbers retired and believe there was talk of retiring #13 but not sure how reliable that information was. Obviously that didn't play a part here, I'm just saying, don't limit numbers either. But #10 and #14 would definitely be used. #89 and #42 probably not as much.

If the guy is in the game it make sense for X to rock it but if he isn't the other guy should. Maybe I am crazy but this has to affect the player some, I might be old and blind but also don't recall many huge returns when we've done this. We've been doing it for awhile now, since the Golden years.

CDW4, this is a textbook explanation and thank you. But beware, this is going **** off the naysayers.

Imagine being 4-0 with a high powered Offense and a Heisman QB and thinking "you know that jersey change is really killing us out there"

LOL

Also imagine not being able to talk about it…

It’s a minor issue, but I don’t see a problem discussing the observation. Specifically the note on if there are two players with the same #, does it have to be the returner that wears the alternate jersey.

Does anyone know the specifics of the rule?

Didn’t this happen vs ATM or we took a timeout because of it or something? Was at the game and saw commotion around it

Imagine fans complaining about their team’s inability to execute simple things… if we can’t execute the jersey either way, we have problems…

Must be Patke at Special Teams since we need someone to blame…

You all really find some stupid **** to ***** about. Be happy we are 4-0 and this team looks like much better than years past.

Love this squad. But is it too much to ask for that we don’t roll into North Carolina on national tv with our punt returner looking like he stole his dads jersey on Halloween?

I watch a junky amount of college football. I don’t see this anywhere elsewhere.

Yes you do. You just don't know it.

With the rise of using the same jersey number for both offensive and defensive players, there is overlap. Many special teams players need to pull on the different-numbered jersey.

Unless you are the University of Florida, in which case they draw the penalty.
