#35 spring workout Ray Ray - Is this real?

He's really not though. I love X and have never had a negative thing to say about him. Won't have anything negative to say here either. But if he's on the same squad as some of our other receivers (just like Harley with his one season, difference being Harley legit sucked) he won't even be a top 3 option & if so 3rd at best. That's not a shot against him. It's just reality. #1 we never had as wide open a passing game as we had during x time here(between Tyler's year and change & cams year)& #2 those dudes played on teams with plenty of options all around the field. For the majority of the time here X was basically the best option & in some parts the only option. Never before have we had any of our all time receivers in those kinds of positions. Again that's not a knock on X. But be real, you put him on a team with Santana, Reggie, nitro, KB Andre, Shockey, kdub, Clint, frank, willis etc where does he fit in where he could rack up stats like that? I'm not saying he wouldn't have made plays. Cause the kid is clutch. But he would've been just another option in all other times.
Of course he won’t play over HOF level players or NFL pro bowlers but dude said BRASHARD SMITH lmfaoo like that’s an insane take.

Literally no fanbase ***** on their great players like ours it’s insane. Why are we even comparing our greats lmao, why we downplaying them in any way. Let their greatness stand individually

X played in the era he was born in, the other greats played in their era.

I would not rank Restrepo above some of the all time greats because those guys were freakish athletes and Restrepo doesn’t really have that kind of size/athleticism. It’s not a knock, it’s just the truth. And just like every other receiver playing in the modern era, he gets more targets because the game is more wide open but his numbers are not a product of not having other options. Last year we had 5 guys with 35 or more receptions. No Miami team ever has spread the ball around that much. In 2023 George had 57 catches and Young had 47 but we had almost zero tight end production. The only year I’d say there was almost no competition for targets was 2022 but X was hurt and only played half the season anyway.

Miami was a decade late to the offensive party so a lot of their records were thirty years old. Until 2020, they played offense like it was still the 90’s. As the years go one, the offensive records will all get broken and the guys who had the records from 30-40 years ago will all slide down the list. It’s just the nature of the sport. Regardless, X is the best UM receiver in the last 20 years.

All true.

I'd also say that any WR who puts up 2 good years at Miami is likely to turn pro, whether he has been at UM for 3 years or 5 years. So the records may stay safe for a while, even in this era.

Keep in mind, Michael Irving left a year early and is tied for #6 all-time in UM receptions and is #4 all-time in yardage. He is still #1 all-time in touchdowns. So with one more year at UM, Michael's records might still be standing.

X is the best slot WR we've ever had here. The only guy who's in the convo is KDub but X was just more prolific and money.

Kevin Williams and Randall Hill might have a word to say. Remember, Dennis Erickson’s base offense featured 11 personnel with a third receiver in the slot.

I didn't know he said all of that. Lmfao. My comment was about nothing but his stats. & Agree with all the rest you said.

Like I said, KDub is in the discussion but X was just that much more prolific. As for Hill, he wasn't a slot. Wesley Carroll was the slot in those days, IIRC.

Ehh, I’m not high on Ray Ray either and I agree with you that Toney should start over him. I’m not rooting against the guy (Ray Ray), but I just don’t see it with him.

However, I have to give Ray Ray credit for practicing and putting in the extra work. I don’t think he looks that bad in these drills. I know they are just simple drills for the most part. Might not even be going full speed. Not everybody will look like Jerry Rice or Calvin Johnson in practice drills. He actually looks quick and explosive in a few of them. Hopefully this extra work translates to improvement on the field.
That’s the point…he likely is cruising through these routes at half speed. Debatable whether there is any benefit from doing do, other than to get loose after a stretch…but I doubt this is him going 1000% fierce.

bingo - it was a take 2-3 years ago and its no disrespect to X. its not like he is a generational talent and jumps off the board in every category

obv b Smith isn't close to X as a wr and wouldn't come close to catching some of the passes or MOST of the passes that X did

not the end of the world when you knew TVD was a cancer and didn't want anything to do with him (sorry to take that frustration out on anybody that was close to him and stood behind him)

It depended on the year. Randall was slot initially than in his third year was moved back outside. Far as a discussion, I can't go anyplace in my head that Kevin doesn't start and end that discussion. Kevin was 6 waiting to happen on any given play. All on stacked teams.

When the pads come on you can be hit things change. I look good running routes vs air.

What did he say?

When asked about Ray Ray Joseph, Coach Cristobal said "Man, **** that Touch Money douchebag, Ray Ray has already cracked the starting lineup. Ray Ray is a wonderful human being who has earned the nickname 'Big Baby God' which, last time I checked, is even better than 'Big Baby Jesus', so I don't really care what some random CIS porster has to say."
