3 must areas of improvement

2. Is retarded

No one and I mean no one cares about bowl games outside the playoffs

Jesus

The bowl game was just the icing on the cake. We weren't dominant or even close to dominant on either side of the line. There's a reason we had literally the entire team on occasion up on the line besides the QB and RB. While one may be thinking at the goal line, it wasn't.

The bowl game was half of our team vs. Rutgers team minus a CB in a home game for them.

We had 2 CBs starting at safety where they hadnt ever played before in Couch and Davis.

We had a QB that hadnt taken a snap in a game all Season. Our starting RB got hurt on the 3rd play of the game. We started a C and a LG that had only taken a few snaps all season. We only had 2 DE's available for the game, both true freshman.

Why do people bring up that exhibition game?

The problem with us getting caught in nail biters against weaker opponents is because we play too methodically. When you play slow, you’re shortening the game and decreasing the amount of possessions you get. This puts a premium on being ultra efficient. One or two misplayed drives and next thing you know you’re in a battle against a team you should be blowing out. I would prefer we come out aggressive and play fast to build a lead and then slow it down only after we’ve built a big lead.
Im afraid this is just mario philosophy but we will see

1. Dawson. The big question with him is the unknown if he is capable of knowing how to maximize the talent upgrades with made and knowing how to get the most of of the pieces he's playing with. He was all over the map last year with some games he looked amazing and other where we just scratched our heads having flashbacks to Patrick Nix and Dan Enos. We never knew what we were going to get and our QB regressed under him immensely. Yes, it's easier to be good at your job when you have talent surrounding you but he can not be the weakest link on the offense. Only time will tell if he can show how to adjust mid game and consistently use creativity he flashed last night beyond the same 5 plays he ran.

2. Toughness. We got bullied by Greg Schiano and an average Rutgers team the last time we saw our team play. Please save us the "it was a meaningless bowl" as it's a deeper issue of culture then if that's the mentality the guys took. There needs to be a visible difference on the line of scrimmage when it comes to physicality on both sides of the ball with how well we've recruited there.

3. Inferior Teams. Something that we've struggled with for way too long is consistently dominating inferior teams primarily the ones in the ACC. Good teams put bad teams away and that is something that we need to see improvement with this year. The middle of the pack and bottom ACC teams can't have any business of hanging around in games well into the 4th quarter. Plenty of this is put on coaching which is already been put on notice. If we can bury teams early, it will be a sign of things getting better with the talent we've acquired.

Thanks.

I had almost - ALMOST wiped my memories of the name "Enos."

And then you had to drag that tuurd out of the bottom of the toilet, into the open, and now I have that stench back in my nostrils.

Good job! Hope you have a shart today. A really, really wet one.

And the toilet paper roll is empty . . .

:ohlord:

Otherwise - you're OK.

Dawson needs to go back and do whatever he did the night before the TAMU game over and over lol **** how he ****ed eat what he ate sleep how he slept
Wasn’t much different than the rest of the year, tamu loaded the box and left their corners on islands. Gtech and on teams started dropping 7 and 8 vs our 3man routes and tvd brain got fried and dawson never adjusted

We still struggled to run against GT’s 3 and 4 man fronts.

Dawson going for the kill against A&M should be the norm not something that shocks us yeah

1. Play better on offense.
2. Play better on defense.
3. Play better on special teams.

Exactly. If my team can score three TDs in one quarter, but it only takes 5 minutes to do so, I'm taking that all day every day over a single TD that takes 10 minutes off the clock. Score as much as possible and let the D take chances. We fart around and keep games closer than they should ever be just by going slow. I'm sick of it.

Its incredible how hung up people are on this game when Miami played without 5 opt outs and how many portal guys? All who were starters and/or the guys we played with. That is a piece of **** bowl game that not a single person will ever remember except the settlement departments at Rutgers and Miami cashing the checks.

1. Turnovers: We were 94 last year in turnover ratio according to NCAA.com stats. That's 94th worst out of 133 teams. I'm actually surprised we weren't lower.

2. Penalties. We were 80 last year in penalties per game with 6.2 per game according to teamrankings.com. We were 106 in penalty yards per game with 59.8 yds per game. Thats 80th and 106th worst.

3. Short yardage play calling (lack of creativity). Thought we were good in short yardage first few games. Even against ATM, Dawson had some short yardage passes that worked. Once we started conference play, we started getting stuffed majority of the time on those 3rd and 1, 4th and 1 runs. It was brutal. Didn't see any many attempts to create mismatches in space. Just run up the gut.

This. I would add communication. So those four things. All four basically boil down to coaching, discipline, and culture. So they better be working their *** off this offseason, because this team is talented enough to go as far as they want to go, provided they put the work in and dig deep

I actually like the OPs bullet #3..and i get what he is saying. Would love for us to go into Tampa against USF and just knock them out right out the gate. The big dawgs absolutely do this. Bama, UGA and Michigan/OSU to a lesser extent absolutely have games where they are up 35-0 at the half on a lesser opponent and just cruise into victory. Especially UGA during their back to back title run. They destroyed Arkansas that one year at home. It was a slaughterhouse. So yes, I absolutely agree that we need to start dominating lesser opponents for ALL 4 quarters. That is a step in the right direction for Mario. Just barely getting a victory against USF or Cal by a score of 21-17 shows we still havent gotten over that hump yet.
I mean that would be ideal but no that doesn’t happen all the time. Perfect example is USF vs Bama last year.

It was 3-3 until the second half and the game was 10-3 until the last 30 seconds where Bama scored again.

The key difference between us and them is they always pull away with the W (minus Saban’s 1st year). **** even the best CFB ever needed a last second miracle against BC.

Every year massive underdogs either pull away with an upset or the good teams escape with a very ugly W.

I agree with everything you said. One thing I remember from those Nick Saban Bama teams from many years ago was they rarely struggled against inferior teams.

Nothing ****es me off more than seeing recruiting rankings for us and say Boston college the last five years.

On a serious note, I agree with #1 for sure.

#3 is where I say yes, we should dominate, but even the best teams in CFB regularly struggle with inferior teams. The difference is they still manage to win those games. Meanwhile, it's a coin flip whether we will even pull a win on a team where we are a 10+ point favorite. It's not about burying or dominating the Georgia Techs and FIUs of the world, it's just coming away a W, even if it's ugly.
Disagree. Yes it’s important to win but it serves as a red flag when you play teams with equal or superior talent.

The point is we consistently struggle against inferior teams. Yes you can’t blow teams out every time especially before or after a rivalry games but to me that’s culture and a certain level of professionalism Mario is trying to instill.

I agree with that. I’d much rather struggle against USF and win 21-17 and then beat VT, GT, UNC, FSU, etc than to handedly beat USF 35-10 and lay an egg against the above. 🤷‍♂️
